Horan, Thomas Lead Bobcats in DH Split vs Rider

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac softball team split the MAAC series with Rider on Saturday, April 16. The Bobcats defeated the Broncs in the first game of the doubleheader by a score of 3-2. In the second game, Kayla Thomas hit a solo home run to tie the game, 1-1, but Rider added one run in the seventh inning and won, 2-1.
Quinnipiac picked up its third MAAC win of the season and snapped Rider's five-game winning streak. The Bobcats will continue MAAC play next Sunday, April 24 as the team will host the Siena Saints.
Game One Recap:
Third Inning – Bridget Nasir led off for the Bobcats in the third inning. She advanced to first on an error by Rider. Brooke Hilliard hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Nasir to second base. Kayla Thomas stepped up and hit an RBI-single and Nasir scored to tie the game, 1-1.
Fourth Inning – Quinnipiac took the lead in the fourth inning, 3-2. Gianna Palmisano got the inning started with a double to center field, and she later advanced to third on a passed ball. Karolyn Walker was walked, and Palmisano scored from third on a wild pitch on the same play. Walker then advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt by Cy Gonzalez. Bridget Nasir then hit a single up the middle, allowing Walker to score the go-ahead run.
The Bobcats would hold off the Broncs and win the game 3-2. Sydney Horan stuck out the final batter to record her fourth complete game of the season.
Notable Stats:
Rider held a 1-0 lead through out a majority of the game until Kayla Thomas hit a homer to left field to tie the game, 1-1. The Broncs would score a second run in the seventh inning, and Quinnipiac was not able to tie the game to force extra innings.

Quinnipiac will have about a week off before facing Siena on Sunday, April 24.
