Siena Finishes MAAC Battle with Strong Second Half

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team dropped its MAAC matchup with the Siena Saints on Wednesday afternoon, 13-12. Junior Desiree Kleberg scored three goals for the Bobcats, pushing her season total to 27. Junior goalkeeper Kat Henselder made 12 saves for the Bobcats in the defeat.

Senior attack Sydney Skalstad and junior midfield Emily Feeney recorded two goals each. In total, eight Bobcats recorded goals in the loss to Siena.

GAME SUMMARY

Sydney Skalstad opened the scoring for the Bobcats with 10:44 left in the first quarter to give Quinnipiac an early 1-0 lead.
Emily Feeney followed up with a goal of her own to push the lead to two 2:25 after Skalstad's goal.
24 seconds later, Desiree Kleberg scored her first goal of the game to give the Bobcats a three goal lead with just over eight minutes to go in the opening quarter.
With 6:12 left on the clock in the first quarter, Sydney Skalstad scored her second goal of the game and the Bobcats were running with a 4-0 lead.
The Siena Saints came back with three goals to cut the Bobcat lead to one.
Desiree Kleberg answered back with her second goal of the quarter to extend the lead back to two, 5-3.
The Bobcats entered the second quarter with a 5-3 lead.
Just over a minute into the second quarter, Sophie Spencer gave Quinnipiac another three goal lead, 6-3 Quinnipiac early in the second quarter.
Siena's Jordan Bentley got one back for the Saints with 11:51 left in the half. Quinnipiac was still holding a 6-4 lead.
Quinnipiac would go on to score three straight goals to give them their largest lead of the game, 9-4. Kalie Moore, Emily Feeney, and Sophia Iaccino helped Quinnipiac extend the lead.
Siena scored their fifth goal of the game with 1:00 to play in the half, but were still trailing 9-5.
Quinnipiac entered the locker room at the half with the 9-5 advantage.
Mary Soures of Siena came out and scored two goals within the half's first three minutes to bring the Saints right back in the game. Quinnipiac was holding onto the 9-7 lead.
Desiree Kleberg put a halt on the Saint comeback when she fired one into the twine for her third goal of the game with 7:28 to play in the third quarter.
Siena would respond with 59 seconds left in the quarter to bring this game to a 10-8 Quinnipiac lead.
After 45 minutes, Quinnipiac had a 10-8 lead.
Siena opened up the scoring early in the fourth quarter to make it a one goal game with 12:01 to play in the game.
Maddie Deegan pushed the Quinnipiac lead back to two goals with her lone goal of the game and 7:06 remaining in the final quarter.
The Saints would roar back with four straight goals to take a two goal lead into the game's final seconds. With 37 seconds left to play, Siena had a 13-11 lead.
Ellagrace Delmond brought the Bobcats back within one with three seconds to play in the game. The Bobcats were trailing the Saints 13-12.
The Quinnipiac comeback will run out of time as the Siena Saints came back to steal this game late, 13-12.

NOTES

The Bobcats outshot the Saints, 34-32.
Both teams were very efficient clearing their defensive zones as Quinnipiac went 16-20 on clears and Siena went 16-18.
The Bobcats caused 15 Siena turnovers.
The Bobcats controlled 14 draws.
