FAIRFAX, Va. – The Quinnipiac baseball team continues its six-game Virginia road trip with a three-game set at George Mason, starting with Friday's opening doubleheader contest at 11 a.m.
Last Time Out
- The Bobcats return to action after going 1-2 on the road at James Madison
- The Bobcats took the opener 8-2, before falling in the final two contests, 6-4 and 19-1
- The Patriots enter the contest at 5-7 on the season
- George Mason is 2-2 in its last four games
- The Patriots took two of three games against Monmouth before falling against Wake Forest, 14-2, this past Wednesday
- Connor Dykstra leads the offense with a .308 batting average, two homers and six RBIs
- Jared Lyons leads the pitching staff with a 2-0 record in three starts
- Lyons boasts a 0.94 WHIP, a 2.95 ERA and 20 strikeouts
- Friday marks QU's first meeting with George Mason
- QU baseball head coach John Delaney announced a new team member, signing six-year-old Cameron Wilson through Team IMPACT in a press conference held in the Mount Carmel Campus Rec Center on Feb. 12
- He will participate in many activities with the baseball team over the next two years, including games, practices, and other team events
- Quinnipiac's leading returning hitter, Ian Ostberg, tallied 23 hits last season and tallied 14 runs
- Ostberg registered multiple hits in four games last season, including three hits in two contests
- A member of the 2019 All-MAAC First Team, Ostberg recorded just one error in 46 chances last season
- He led the Bobcats with five stolen bases in 2021
- Went 3 for 4 with a three-run home run and finished with four RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases in an 11-1 win vs. Siena on April 9
- Kyle Maves returns for his senior campaign after batting a career-high .271 in 21 games last season
- Recorded 16 hits with three doubles, nine runs scored, six RBIs and four stolen bases in 2021
- Maves is batting .393 on the season with 11 hits and eight runs scored
- He leads the team with seven walks and seven stolen bases
- Maves is 7-for-7 on the basepaths this season
- Sebastian Mueller returns for his sophomore campaign after finishing sixth on the team in hits (20)
- Tied for third on the team with two home runs last season
- Recorded three doubles and two home runs along with nine RBIs and nine runs scored
- Mueller boasts a .258 batting average with seven RBIs on the short campaign
- In the opening weekend at Saint Joseph's, Mueller batted .308 with four hits and five RBIs
- A transfer from SUNY Cortland, Anthony Donofrio took no time at all to adjust to find his fit in the Bobcats' lineup
- Donofrio is batting .385 with a team-best 15 hits, nine RBIs, four doubles and a homer
- In the opening weekend at Saint Joseph's, Donofrio batted .462 with six hits, five RBIs and two stolen bases
- In just his second game in a Bobcats' uniform, Donofrio went 4-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored vs. Saint Joseph's on Feb. 19
- He followed that performance with two hits and four RBIs in an 18-8 victory over Saint Joseph's on Feb. 20
- Junior Danny Melnick got off to a hot start to open the season
- He boasts a .323 batting average with 10 hits, eight RBIs and a homer
- Melnick led the offense in the opening series at Saint Joseph's, batting .600 with six hits, four runs scored and four RBIs in just two games played
- Melnick went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBI against Saint Joseph's on Feb. 19
- He followed that performance with three hits, a homer, three runs scored and four RBIs in an 18-8 victory over Saint Joseph's on Feb. 20
- The Bobcats will be back in action on Tuesday, March 14 when they travel to West Hartford for a midweek contest with Hartford on Tuesday
- First pitch from Fiondella Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
