Garcia Strikes Out 10 in Bobcats' 6-5 Win in Split With George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Quinnipiac baseball team split its doubleheader against George Mason, taking game one 6-5, before falling in game two, 8-4, on the road Saturday afternoon at Spuhler Park.

With the split the Bobcats moved to 3-8 on the season, while the Patriots moved to 6-8 on the campaign.

Game One: Quinnipiac 6, George Mason 5
George Mason posted a combined four runs in the first two innings to jump ahead 4-0. The Bobcats were held scoreless through three innings before Danny Melnick drove in Kyle Maves to cut the deficit to 4-1 in the fourth. Sebastian Mueller cut the deficit to two in the fifth inning after he launched a solo homer to left.

QU combined to score a total of four runs in the sixth and seventh innings to push ahead 8-4. Jimmy Hagan tossed two scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth to secure the win for the Bobcats.

Game Two: George Mason 8, Quinnipiac 4
QU jumped ahead early to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Melnick's grounder drove in Maves. After the Patriots responded with two runs of their own, QU knotted the contest at 2-2 after Matt DeRosa drove in Gianni Arici.

Leading 3-2, George Mason posted five runs in the sixth inning to push ahead 8-2. Jared Zimbardo grounded a two-run double to left to bring the score to 8-4 in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as the Patriots hung on for the 8-4 win.
