Balanc, Jones Earn Preseason All-MAAC Status

EDISON, NJ – Quinnipiac men's basketball has been tabbed No. 4 in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league office on Tuesday during the 2022-23 Basketball Preseason Awards Show on ESPN3/ESPN+.
Quinnipiac redshirt senior Matt Balanc has been named to the Preseason All-MAAC First Team, while junior Dezi Jones earned Preseason All-MAAC Third Team status.
The Bobcats received 80 points in the preseason coaches' poll – finishing just behind Iona (119 points), Manhattan (104 points) and Rider (101 points).

Matt Balanc enjoyed a breakout season last year, earning All-MAAC Second Team status. He led the Bobcats in scoring (14.6 PPG), adding 4.2 rebounds per night and a 42.9% shooting percentage. Balanc tallied 10+ points in 23 of the 30 total games played, and registered seven games with 20+. He recorded 15.6 PPG over three MAAC Tournament games in Atlantic City.
Dezi Jones played in all 31 games for the Bobcats in 2021-22, finishing second on the team in scoring (11.5 PPG). Jones added 3.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists a night on 47.4% shooting. He registered a season-best 26 points at Monmouth (3/3/21), and tallied 20+ points five separate times. Jones averaged 13.7 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 4.6 APG during MAAC Tournament in Atlantic City in March.
Quinnipiac went 14-17 last year. The Bobcats won a pair of MAAC Tournament games (vs. Marist, vs. Siena) in Atlantic City, becoming the first No. 11 seed to advance to the semifinal round in league tournament history.
The Bobcats return 5 of their top 7 scorers from a season ago, led by All-MAAC selection Matt Balanc (14.6 PPG). Dezi Jones, Savion Lewis, Tyrese Williams, Tymu Chenery, Luis Kortright and JJ Riggins are all back after playing significant minutes in 2021-22.
Quinnipiac added four impact transfers during the offseason: Ike Nweke (Columbia), Elijah Taylor (Notre Dame), Alexis Reyes (East Carolina), and Paul Otieno. (Kilgore CC).
QU announced its full 2022-23 schedule on Sept. 12. The Bobcats non-conference schedule features 11 games in total – three of which will take place at M&T Bank Arena in Hamden.
Quinnipiac begins the 2022-23 season at A10 foe Rhode Island (Monday, Nov. 7). The Bobcats will head to Montreal for the second time under Dunleavy, competing in the Northern Classic in Montreal for three total games (Nov. 25-27).
