Aasen's OT Goal Powers Bobcats Past Siena

HAMDEN, Conn. – Brage Aasen netted the game-winning penalty kick 50 seconds into overtime, lifting Quinnipiac men's soccer past Siena on Wednesday in the Bobcats' MAAC opener.
Aasen contributed to all three QU goals, leading the way with two scores and one assist.
David Bercedo scored in the 82nd minute of play to tie the game for the Bobcats, then QU drew a foul inside the box 10 seconds into the overtime period to earn a penalty kick attempt.
With the win, Quinnipiac improves to 6-2-0 (1-0-0) so far in the fall 2021 campaign.

(28' – Quinnipiac 1, Siena 0): Brage Aasen gave the Bobcats an early lead. Dejan Duric won possession in the offensive third and played the ball into Tomas Svecula, who then found Aasen through a pair of defenders. Aasen finished with his left foot to give QU an early edge.
SECOND HALF
(55' – Quinnipiac 1, Siena 1): Frederic Storodegard scored for Siena to open things up in the second half, tying the game 1-1.
(57' – Siena 2, Quinnipiac 1): Jacob Sandun Arachchige-Jensen netted a penalty kick after the Bobcats got called for a foul inside the box, giving the Saints the lead less than two minutes after their first score.
(82' – Quinnipiac 2, Siena 2): David Bercedo then scored in the 82nd minute of play to tie the game. Jordon Bennett played the ball in toward the top of the box to Brage Aasen, then Aasen spun and found David Bercedo. The junior blasted a shot off the left post, and it trickled in for the score.

- David Bercedo scored his third goal of the year in the victory. He now has eight points (three goals, two helpers).
- Dejan Duric and Jordon Bennett each added an assist.
- Antreas Hadjigavriel made three saves for QU, and the Bobcats defense allowed just 10 total shots.
- Quinnipiac earned three corner chances, while Siena had four.
- Since joining the MAAC prior to the 2013 season, Head Coach Erica Da Costa and the Bobcats have posted an impressive 50-16-11 mark in regular season MAAC games.
- Da Costa is up to 124 career wins.
