Bobcats' Infielder Records 133rd RBI of Career to Pass Guglietti '15 in DH Split
Vulgamore entered the weekend tied with Vincent Guglietti '15 for the most RBIs in Division I program history before passing him on Monday, and moving into sole possession of fifth all-time in program history.
The Bobcats fell in Sunday's completion in seven innings, 15-5, before coming back to earn a dominant 2-1 victory in the seven-inning game of the doubleheader. Quinnipiac dropped the final game of the weekend series, 10-2.
Arthur Correira (Rehoboth, Massachusetts) pitched the best game of his career as he struck out a career-high 10 batters in his first start since March 27. He logged his first career complete game in the win.
Correira faced just one batter over the minimum in his final four innings of work, as he retired 11 of the final 13 batters he faced thanks to a game-innings 6-3 double play. He struck out two batters in four separate innings.
Vulgamore scored on a wild pitch after a one-out double in the first inning and Dylan Lutz (Denver, Colorado) scored on an attempted double steal with runners on the corners and that was all the run support Correira needed.
After a rough start in the second game the doubleheader and the Bobcats trailing 8-0, Andrew Cubberly (LaGrangeville, New York) came on as the Bobcats' third pitcher of the inning and settled things down. He struck out two of the first three batters he faced on his way to a career-high 10 strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work in just his second career appearance.
Cubberly struck out the side in the sixth inning for the first time in his career and had four innings with at least two strikeouts. He struck out the final batter of every inning he pitched.
Quinnipiac scored on two wild pitches in the top of the eighth inning but could not overcome the early deficit.
