Softball Edged in Two Games at Fairfield

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team dropped both road games to the Fairfield Stags by a score of 8-4 both games. The Bobcats move to 7-23 on the season, and Fairfield improves to 18-8 on the season. Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez led the Bobcats on the day, going 4-8 with two runs and two RBIs.
Highlights Game 1 (L, 4-8):
Third Inning - The Bobcats looked to decrease the Stags' early lead after Fairfield jumped to a 2-0 lead through the second inning. Quinnipiac scored three times in the third to take a 3-2 lead. First-year Gianna Palmisano was walked, and senior Kayla Jensen reached on a error by Fairfield's pitcher. Both Palmisano and Jensen stole second and third. Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez hit an RBI-single to send Palmisano home. Jensen later scored off a wild pitch. With the bases loaded, junior Bridget Nasir walked, recording an RBI as Rodriguez scored from third.
Fifth Inning - Quinnipiac added one run in the top of the fifth. Senior Brighid Douglas got the inning started with a double to left field. First-year Kayla Thomas singled to center, and Douglas scored.
Fairfield would go on to win game one, 8-4.

With Rodriguez on second, Douglas hit her second double of the day, and Rodriguez advanced to third. First-year Karolyn Walker followed with a two-RBI double to left field, allowing Rodriguez and Douglas to score.
Fifth Inning - Sophomore Cy Gonzalez hit a single to open the inning. Palmisano then hit a single through the left side, and Gonzalez advanced to second. Gonzalez later scored off an error by the catcher. Rodriguez then hit a single, and Palmisano scored taking the score to 8-4 in favor of the Stags.
Notable Stats:
Quinnipiac will host Siena for a four-game series on May 1-2 in Hamden. First pitch on Saturday is set for 12 p.m.
