Bobcats Come Up Short in Back-and-Forth Battle at Monmouth

Szawlowski and Iaccino Record Three Goals Each, Henselder Makes 15 Saves
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team had a back-and-forth battle with the Monmouth Hawks Sunday afternoon but Monmouth scored the final two goals in the last seven minutes of action to come away with the 13-12 win at Kessler Stadium.
Megan Szawlowski and Sophia Iaccino each tallied three goals and an assist to lead the Bobcats Sunday. Emily Feeney and Maddie Deegan also had multi-goal games with two goals apiece as the Bobcats came up just short.
Goalkeeper Kat Henselder made another 15 saves, just two days after making a career-high 16 saves for the Bobcats. Henselder made seven saves in the first half and eight in the second half.
Quinnipiac scored four of the game's first five goals to take a 4-1 lead but Monmouth settled in to scored four straight goals in 3:01 to take a 5-4 lead. After the Bobcats' tied it up, the Hawks scored three straight before a Bobcat goal to end the half.
The Bobcats tied the game early in the second half and from that point on, neither team led by more than a goal as the pair traded leads before Monmouth scored the final two goals to win Sunday's matchup.

GAME SUMMARY
- Szawlowski put the Bobcats on the board just 41 seconds into the game and Deegan doubled the lead just over a minute later.
- After a Monmouth goal from Nicole Ceraso, Iaccino and Kalie Moore each tallied goals to put the Bobcats up by three goals with 23:39 left in the first half for their largest lead of the game.
- Monmouth scored seven of the next eight goals over a stretch of nearly 20 minutes to take an 8-5 lead, overcoming the early three-goal deficit.
- Szawlowski ended the first half with her second goal of the game with 31 seconds to play
- Szawlowski and Deegan started the second half the same way they started the first with a goal each, tying the game at 8-8 with 25:05 left in the second half.
- Quinnipiac and Monmouth traded the next few goals before Iaccino scored her second and Liza Bailey found the back of the net to give Quinnipiac an 11-10 lead with 11:27 to go in the half.
- Iaccino completed her own hat trick with eight minutes to go in the half to take a 12-11 lead after a Monmouth goal from Carli Mangum.
- Allison Turturro tied the game with 6:35 to play with her second goal and Caroline Bleck tallied her fifth and final goal of the game with 3:35 to play, a goal which stood as the game-winner.
NOTES
- Henselder tallied her third straight game with 15-plus saves after recording 15 saves Sunday and a career-high 16 saves on Friday against Monmouth.
- She is averaging 13.86 saves per game in 2021.
- Szawlowski recorded her fourth game with at least three goals in 2021 and now has 18 goals in seven games for the Bobcats.
- She also added an assist to give her 23 points, averaging over three points per game.
- Iaccino notched her third game with three-plus goals this season after a hat trick on Sunday, and added an assist to giver 17 points this season.
- Deegan had two goals for her third multi-goal game of the season and finished the weekend with three goals against Monmouth
- Feeney recorded her second career two-goal game, and second in the last three games after two goals against Iona on March 21.
- Feeney also tied her season-high with two caused turnovers.
- She has a goal in five straight games and has eight goals in 2021.
- Bailey added a goal and her second assist of the season Sunday
- Moore tallied her fourth goal in the last four games
- Lauren Hayes had one of her best games on the defensive end with career-highs of four groundballs and three caused turnovers while Mara Smith tied her career-high with two caused turnovers.
- The Hawks outshot the Bobcats, 37-28, including 28-20 in shots on goal.
- Quinnipiac forced 17 Monmouth turnovers.
- The Hawks also had a strong advantage in draw controls, 21-6.
- The Bobcats converted on 27 of their 28 clear attempts.
