Bobcats Take Three-Run Lead in Sixth Inning, Bulldogs Come Back for Win in Ninth
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Quinnipiac baseball team scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning Saturday afternoon to take a lead on No. 12 Mississippi State but the Bulldogs overcame the three-run deficit to walk off on the Bobcats, 5-4.
The Bobcats trailed 1-0 before scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) brought home Vulgamore with a sacrifice fly and Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) scored on a throwing error. Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) singled later in the inning and a pair of errors allowed Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) and Michael Kohn (Rockville, Maryland) to score.
Mississippi State scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull back within a run before walking off in the bottom of the ninth inning as they drew two walks and were hit by two pitches before Josh Hatcher brought home the winning run with an infield single.
Blake DeCarr (Foxboro, Massachusetts) was stellar in his second start in as many weekends as he allowed just one earned run on four hits and struck out two batters in 5 1/3 innings before Colin Donnelly (Flemington, New Jersey) struck out three and allowed just one run on three hits in 2 2/3 innings out of the bullpen.
Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) went 1 for 3 with a double, walk, stolen base and run scored to lead the Bobcats offensively while Ostberg and Kohn extended their hitting streaks to seven and five games, respectively.

SIXTH INNING
- Vulgamore doubled to left center with one out in the inning and moved up to third on an Ostberg single.
- After Ostberg stole second, Bender brought home Vulgamore with a sacrifice fly to tie the game and Ostberg came home to score on a throwing error.
- Marrero reached on a fielding error and Kohn was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base.
- Maves singled and advanced two bases on a throwing error that scored Marrero and Kohn to cap off the four-run inning.
- Vulgamore had the Bobcats second extra base hit of the weekend as he doubled, walked, stole a base and scored a run
- Ostberg extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single and scored a run, as well as stealing a season-high two bases.
- Kohn also extended his hitting streak to five games as he doubled and scored a run, as well picking up a hit by pitch.
- In Kohn's five-game hitting streak, all five hits have gone for extra bases.
- Maves singled and drove in an RBI for the Bobcats as he now has hits in three straight games and four of the last five games.
- DeCarr had his second straight great start for the Bobcats as he allowed just one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings
- Quinnipiac and Mississippi State wrap up their three-game series Sunday afternoon with first pitch set for 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT at Dudy Noble Field.
