Kohn Doubles Twice, Drives in Two RBI for Fourth Inning Lead but Bobcats Come Up Short
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Quinnipiac baseball team took an early lead over the No. 12 Mississippi State Bulldogs Sunday afternoon but the Bobcats fell in the final game of their three-game series, 8-4, at Dudy Noble Field.
Michael Kohn (Rockville, Maryland) went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs to lead the Bobcats at the plate Sunday. Kohn put the Bobcats on top in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run double that scored Dylan Lutz (Denver, Colorado) and Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts).
Sunday was the second straight game the Bobcats held a lead over the nationally-ranked Bulldogs.
After five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning from Mississippi State, Quinnipiac tried to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh with a two-out RBI single from Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) to score Braydon Seaburg (Stratford, Connecticut) but the three-run deficit is the closest the Bobcats would get.

THIRD INNING
- Kyle Horton (Monroe, Connecticut) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.
- Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) reached on a bunt single in front of the plate that moved Horton up to third before Horton came home to score on a wild pitch to cut Mississippi State's lead in half.
- Lutz led off the inning with a double to right center field and moved up to third on a wild pitch.
- After Marrero walked and moved up to second on a wild pitch, Kohn ripped his second double of the game down the right field line to score Lutz and Marrero easily and take a 3-2 lead on the Bulldogs
- With two outs in the inning, Seaburg singled to right field and advanced as Maves drew a four-pitch walk
- On an 0-1 count, Vulgamore singled up the middle to score Seaburg and pull the Bobcats within three, 7-4.
- Kohn extended his hitting streak to six games with his pair of doubles against Mississippi State as he went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
- Kohn has recorded an extra-base hit in all six games.
- Lutz also doubled for the Bobcats and came around to score a run for the Bobcats.
- Seaburg went 1 for 3 with a single and scored a run, and also laid down a sacrifice bunt earlier in the game.
- Vulgamore recorded an RBI single to move into a tie with Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) for the team-lead with eight RBIs and has posted a hit in six of his last seven games.
- Horton was hit by a pitch and scored a run for the Bobcats while Marrero walked and scored.
- The Bobcats are off Monday and travel east to prepare for a pair of midweek contests at Furman on Tuesday and at Kennesaw State on Wednesday.
