HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team will kick off an eight-game, 11-day spring break trip down south beginning with a three-game series at No. 12 Mississippi State this weekend.
Scouting Mississippi State
The Bulldogs are 7-4 to start this season but just dropped a three-game series at Long Beach State in their first series of the season. Mississippi State took the second game of its three-game series at the Dirtbags, 9-0, butt fell in games one and three. Mississippi State also has wins against Oregon State, Wright State and Alcorn State. Justin Foscue leads the Bulldogs with a .378 batting average, two home runs, three doubles, 23 RBIs and 11 walks while Jordan Westburg has scored a team-high 13 runs this season. Starting pitcher Christian MacLeod is 3-0 with a 1.20 ERA to start the season, striking out 23 batters in 15 innings while Eric Cerantola is 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 14 innings.

This weekend is the first meeting between the two programs.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats picked up their first win of the season at the Virginia Military Institute last Friday with a 10-3 win over the Keydets before falling in a doubleheader Sunday to close out the series. Michael Kohn picked up three extra-base hits in the series, including his first career home run, while Blake DeCarr earned the win Friday for his first collegiate win.
Kohner's Tearing It Up
Michael Kohn had one of his best weekends of his collegiate career as he tallied hits in three straight games, with all three hits going for extra bases. Kohn hit his first career home run in game one of Sunday's doubleheader. In the series, Kohn scored five runs including two runs in each end of the doubleheader.
Flying V
Evan Vulgamore extended his hitting streak to four games as he hit safely in all three games against the Keydets and extended his streak of games with runs scored and RBIs to four games. Vulgamore now has seven runs scored on the season and driven in seven RBIs to lead the team.
Ostberg's On a Roll
Ian Ostberg extended his hitting streak to team-leading five games as he picked up five hits at VMI last weekend. Ostberg's best game came in the second game of the doubleheader, recording three hits with a double, run scored and RBI. He's raised his batting average to .281 after going 5 for 13 on the weekend.
Blake's Big Star
Blake DeCarr earned his first career victory in Friday's win as he made his first start since April 17. DeCarr pitched into the sixth inning with 5 1/3 innings and struck out five batters for the fourth time in the past two seasons. He has been solid so far in 10 innings over three appearances, posting a 2.70 ERA with eight strikeouts.
Lutz on the Loose
Dylan Lutz also extended his hitting streak to four game for the Bobcats as he had four hits in the three-game series, including a two-hit, two-RBI game in game two at VMI and totaled three RBIs in the series.
Colt 45
Colton Bender recorded his second straight three-hit game in the series-opener at VMI and reached base four times in the game with a double, walk two RBIs and a run scored. Bender is tied for the team-lead with nine hits, three doubles and seven RBIs.
Nico's Nice
Christian Nicolosi has been the Bobcats top starting pitcher in his first two starts of the season as he sports a 0.79 ERA, allowing just one earned run in 11 1/3 innings. He has allowed just one walk and eight hits with opponents hitting .211 against him to go with 10 strikeouts. In his start at James Madison, Nicolosi scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings.
