Bobcats Look to Extend Winning Streak to Three to Open 2020 Season

HAMDEN, Conn. – The No. 3 Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling team kicks off a challenging stretch of its schedule Sunday afternoon as the Bobcats travel to Eugene, Oregon, to take on the No. 2 Oregon Ducks at Matthew Knight Arena.
Scouting Oregon
Oregon comes into the weekend with a 3-1 record on the season and are 2-1 against ranked opponents this season, including last weekend's 281.300-277.390 victory at No. 4 Azusa Pacific on Feb. 27. Oregon has had its highest score of the season in its win against the Cougars. The Ducks are led by two-time NCATA Athlete of the Week Payton Coon.
All-Time vs. Oregon
The Bobcats come into the weekend with a 1-12 record all-time against the Ducks with their lone win coming the last time the two teams met in Eugene back in 2018. Quinnipiac and Oregon first met in 2010 before the Ducks joined the NCATA and will meet in Oregon for the fifth time all-time.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac earned its second straight win to open up the season as the Bobcats took down the Davis and Elkins Senators, 269.235-243.865. The Bobcats recorded nearly a one-point increase from the previous week.
Back-to-Back
The Bobcats are 2-0 to open up the season for the first time since the 2014 season when the Bobcats defeated Gannon and Baylor in the first two meets of the season. Dating back to March 9, 2019, Quinnipiac has won seven of its last eight meets.
Weekly Awards
Nicolette Tianga picked up her second straight NCATA First Year of the Week Award after the Bobcats' second straight win, making her the first Bobcat to win two NCATA First Year of the Week awards in her career and first two win it in back-to-back.
Honorable Mention
Megan Hamel continues to impress in 2020 as she was named to the honorable mention of the NCATA Athlete of the Week Award for the second straight week, and was also named to the honorable mention of the specialist of the week award.
2020 Preseason Poll
The Bobcats were picked third in the NCATA Preseason Top 10 Poll for the second straight season and received 330 points in the poll. Quinnipiac trailed only Baylor and Oregon, and had a two-point edge on Azusa Pacific for the No. 3 spot.
Challenging Schedule
Quinnipiac has a challenging 2020 schedule which features four teams ranked in the preseason Top 10, including three in the preseason top five. After the Bobcats face Presbyterian, they'll host Davis & Elkins on March 2 in the home opener. The schedule ramps up from their as they travel to No. 2 Oregon before returning to host No. 7 Fairmont State and No. 1 Baylor before ending the season at No. 5 Gannon.
