The Keydets enter the weekend enter the weekend with a 2-6 record with single wins at North Florida and against Lafayette. VMI played Virginia to a tight midweek contest two weeks ago, 4-3, and recently feel at James Madison, 4-2, on Tuesday afternoon. As a staff, VMI has 64 strikeouts in 68 2/3 innings to go with a 3.28 ERA and opponents are batting just .209 against the Keydets.
All-Time vs. VMI
Quinnipiac and VMI have met just one other time in a three-game series back in 2017 where the Bobcats went 1-2 against the Keydets. Quinnipiac won the first game of the series, 8-5, before VMI bounced back to win the final two games down in Lexington.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats were swept at James Madison in a highly contested series last weekend. Quinnipiac opened and closed the weekend with walk-off losses against James Madison. The series opened with a 1-0 loss in 10 innings despite seven shutout innings from Christian Nicolosi and a solid relief appearance from Connor Mahoney. After a tough 7-0 loss in Saturday's game, the Bobcats stormed back to tie the Dukes Sunday but fell in the bottom of the ninth inning, 12-11.
Comeback Kids
Quinnipiac baseball had a game for the ages on Sunday at James Madison as the Bobcats stormed back from a 10-2 deficit with the seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings before a two-run single from Ian Ostberg in the ninth inning tied the game. The comeback; however, came up just short as the Dukes hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Nico's Nice
Christian Nicolosi has been the Bobcats top starting pitcher through the first two weekends of the season as he sports a 0.79 ERA, allowing just one earned run in 11 1/3 innings. He has allowed just one walk and eight hits with opponents hitting .211 against him to go with 10 strikeouts. In his start at James Madison, Nicolosi scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings.
Power Surge
Evan Vulgamore blasted another home run Sunday for his second of the season and 22nd of his career, moving into a tie for sixth in Division I program history with Pete Kummerfeldt '08. Vulgamore has come around and scored four runs on the season, the most on the team.
Lefty Dominance
Brandyn Garcia has showed off a strong arm through his first two appearances of the season at UTSA and James Madison as he has scattered one run on three hits over six innings with opponents hitting just .150 against him. He has four strikeouts in his two outings.
Extra, Extra!
Colton Bender broke out in the final game of the James Madison series with his first career three-extra base hit game with two doubles and a home run as he drove in three RBIs and scored two runs. Bender is tied for the team lead with 10 total bases.
Mahoney Magic
Despite taking the loss at James Madison, lefty Connor Mahoney has also showed some promise out of the bullpen as he has allowed just one run on three hits in 4 2/3 innings with five strikeouts. Mahoney had retired the first eight batters he faced at James Madison as he pitched into the 10th inning before the Dukes walked off for his first run allowed.
First of Many
Braydon Seaburg had a series to remember as he recorded his first three collegiate hits Friday night with a trio of singles. Friday night was also his first career three-hit game before he followed that up with another single on Sunday.
