Bobcats Storm Back Eight-Run Deficit to Tie Game, Fall in Ninth Inning
Trailing 10-2 heading into the sixth inning, Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) doubled home Ostberg to from first to make it 10-3. After a Gianni Arici (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) walk, Kyle Horton (Monroe, Connecticut) blasted a three-run home run to pull within four runs.
The Bobcats added three runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull within a run at 10-9 as Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) homered to left centerfield and Bender blasted a two-run home run to left field.
After James Madison added a run to take a two-run lead, Ostberg lined a two-run single up the middle to score Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) and Vulgamore to tie the game, 11-11.
The Bobcats heroic efforts came up just short as Nick Zona walked to lead off the bottom of the ninth before Chase DeLauter walked off the Dukes for the second time this weekend as he doubled to right centerfield and score Zona from first base.
Bender led the Bobcats as he went 3 for 5 with two doubles, home run, three RBIs and two runs scored while Ostberg was 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs and Vulgamore was 2 for 3 with a home run and three runs scored. Horton's three-run home run was the second of his career.

FIRST INNING
- Marrero singled through the right side to lead off the game and advanced two bases on a pair of passed balls.
- Vulgamore was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners before Lutz laid down a safety squeeze to score Marrero and reached safely while Vulgamore moved up to third on a throwing error.
- Vulgamore came home to score on a double play and make it a 2-0 lead.
- Ostberg singled with one out in the inning and came home to score as Bender ripped a double to left field
- After a strikeout, Arici walked with two outs in the inning and Horton launched his second career home run with a blast to right centerfield.
- Vulgamore lifted a solo home run to left centerfield with one out in the inning
- Ostberg was hit by a pitch on a 3-2 count before Bender ripped a two-run home run to left field to pull within a run at 10-9.
- Trailing by two runs in the inning, Marrero led off with a six-pitch walk before Vulgamore singled to centerfield to put runners on first and second.
- After a wild pitch advanced both runners into scoring position followed by a flyout, Ostberg singled up the middle to tie the game.
- Vulgamore's home run was his team-leading second of the season and 22nd of his career, moving into a tie with Pete Kummerfeldt '08 for sixth in program history.
- His three runs scored were tied for the game-high and most since scoring four on May 17, 2019 as the Bobcats clinched a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship.
- Ostberg posted his two-hit, two-run and two-RBI game of the season.
- Bender had an impressive game with his first two-double and three-extra base hit game of his career, as well as his seventh three-hit game of his career.
- Bender also drove home three RBIs for just the second third time in his career.
- Horton blasted his second career home run and first since May 17, 2018 at Rider and was the second three-run home run of his career.
- Marrero reached base twice with a single and a walk as well and came home two score two runs.
- Blake DeCarr (Foxboro, Massachusetts) was the Bobcats' top pitcher out of the bullpen as he allowed just one hit and one unearned run with two strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings as the Bobcats mounted their comeback.
- Quinnipiac travels to the Virginia Military Institute next weekend for a three-game series beginning Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
