BURLINGTON, VT – Quinnipiac men's lacrosse continues the non-conference portion of its 2020 schedule on Saturday afternoon, traveling north to Burling to face America East foe Vermont at 12:00 p.m.
SECOND YEAR UNDER MASON POLI
- The Bobcats enter the second year under Head Coach Mason Poli in 2020, as Poli guided Quinnipiac to a 9-7 (5-2 MAAC) record in 2019 as Interim Head Coach.
- QU made its third-ever appearance in the MAAC Tournament championship contest in 2019.
- The Bobcats recorded a winning MAAC record for the fourth time in six seasons since joining the conference in 2013-14, earning a No. 2 seed in the postseason tournament. Quinnipiac scored 10+ goals in five of seven regular season league games.
- Poli finished the 2019 season with the most wins for any first-year head coach in Division I lacrosse.
- Quinnipiac's roster for the upcoming season includes 11 First-Year student-athletes, 12 sophomores, 10 juniors, five seniors and one graduate student.
- Vermont is 0-1 so far this season, falling at Holy Cross in its season opener on Saturday, Feb. 15.
- Sophomore Thomas McConvey led the way for the Catamounts with three goals and one assist for four total points in the opener. Junior Liam LiMoges added three goals, and senior Ben French assisted on three goals.
- Quinnipiac is 2-7 all-time against Vermont. The Catamounts have taken each of the last two matches.
- Jake Tomsik has paced the Bobcats offensively so far in 2020, recording four goals and four assists for a team-high eight points.
- The junior had one goal and one assist in the season-opener vs. nationally-ranked Rutgers, then scored two goals to go along with two assists vs. UMass Lowell on Feb. 8. He added one goal and one helper in the Bobcats latest contest at Brown.
- Tomsik has 68 goals and 112 points so far in 34 career games with the Bobcats. He is already one of 15 players in Quinnipiac program history to surpass 100 points.
- Sophomore Will Abbott scored four times in Quinnipiac's opener vs. Rutgers, and has five goals so far this season for the Bobcats.
- The MAAC All-Rookie and All-MAAC First Team selection in 2019 has 25 goals and 14 assists for 39 points in the first 19 games of his QU career.
- Will Abbott earned the No. 2 play in SportsCenter's Top 10 countdown for his behind-the-back, over-the-shoulder goal at Rutgers in the Bobcats' season opener.
- Two Quinnipiac programs made SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays on Saturday, Feb. 1, as Quinnipiac women's ice hockey junior Grace Markey secured the No. 9 spot with her diving finish in Quinnipiac's win over Yale in New Haven.
- First-year attack John DeLucia has recorded seven goals over his first three games with the program, scoring three times against UMass Lowell and twice vs. Rutgers and Brown.
- Fellow first-year attack Jake Tellers has added four goals and two assists over his first three collegiate games.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Nick DiMuccio finished his first season with the Bobcats ranked No. 4 nationally in saves per game (13.88).
- He made 10+ stops in 14 of 16 games as a First-Year goalie, including 19 saves vs. Yale on April 23.
- DiMuccio was named MAAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 17. The goalie made a career-high 21 saves in Saturday's non-conference contest at Brown.
- He now has 47 saves in three Bobcats' games this season, ranking No. 6 nationally in saves per contest (15.67).
- Sophomore Demitri George has been locked in at the faceoff x so far this year, leading the MAAC in ground balls per game (9.33). George ranks 12th nationally in ground balls per contest.
- Three of Quinnipiac's top five scorers are back in 2020.
- Jake Tomsik (37 goals, 23 assists, 60 points) is back for his junior season after finishing last year second in the MAAC in points per game (3.75). Tomsik scored 3+ goals seven separate times last year. He tied a program record with eight goals against NJIT on Feb. 2, 2019, the highest single-game scoring mark since Erik Anderson scored eight times vs. Siena on April 10, 1999.
- Sophomore Will Abbott (20 goals, 14 assists, 34 points) made an immediate impact last year as a First Year, earning MAAC All-Rookie and First Team All-MAAC honors. Abbott had eight multi-goal performances for the Bobcats in 2019.
- Tyler Mackay (21 goals, six assists, 27 points) is back for his senior season. Mackay had three hat trick's last season, scoring eight goals in the last three games of 2019.
- Junior Jake Tomsik has been selected as the 2020 MAAC Co-Preseason Player of the Year, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
- Quinnipiac (42 points) was tabbed No. 3 overall in the Preseason Coaches' Poll, finishing behind only Marist (63 points) and Detroit Mercy (49 points).
- Tomsik and sophomore Will Abbott were also selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Team, while Marist's senior Peyton Smith earned Co-Preseason Player of the Year honors alongside Tomsik.
- The Bobcats return to play on Saturday, Feb. 29, traveling to Fairfield for another non-conference bout.
