Bobcats Score Game's First Run Before Roadrunners Score Five Unanswered Runs
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) homered in the second inning Saturday afternoon for Quinnipiac baseball but the Bobcats fell, 5-1, in the second game of the season at the UTSA Roadrunners.
Vulgamore's blast was his first of the season and the Bobcats' took a 1-0 lead in the game butt the Roadrunners scored five unanswered runs to close out the game.
UTSA scored three runs in the third inning on an RBI double and a pair of RBI singles. The Roadrunners added another RBI single in the fifth inning before Hobbs Price homered to center in the eighth inning.
Relievers Blake DeCarr (Foxboro, Massachusetts) and Brandyn Garcia (Granby, Connecticut) combined to allow just two runs and three hits over the final 5 1/3 innings Saturday afternoon but the Bobcats offense could not scratch across another run.

SECOND INNING
- On the fifth pitch of his first at-bat of the game, Vulgamore blasted a 2-2 pitch over the centerfield wall to give the Bobcats the initial 1-0 lead.
- Vulgamore's home run was his first of the season and 21st of his career, good for seventh in Division I program history.
- Derek Kasperzyk (Killingworth, Connecticut) tripled for the Bobcats in the second inning for his first hit of the season and first career triple.
- Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) also singled for his first hit of the 2020 campaign.
- Arthur Correira (Rehoboth, Massachusetts) struck out three batters in 2 2/3 innings in his first start of the season.
- DeCarr recorded one strikeout and allowed just one hit in 2 1/3 innings while Garcia allowed just two hits with two strikeouts in three innings of relief.
- Danny Melnick (Hamilton, New Jersey) made his first collegiate start behind the plate while Garcia's appearance was his first collegiate action.
- The Bobcats and Roadrunners wrap up their three-game series Sunday morning with first pitch set for 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT.
- Derek Goldrick (Weare, New Hampshire) is slated to make his first start of the season with UTSA's starter to be determined.
