Bobcats take down the Pioneers, 6-1

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team opened the 2020-21 season with a dominating 6-1 win over Sacred Heart. Six different Bobcats scored, and head coach Cass Turner earned her 100th career win.

The Bobcats outshot the Pioneers 68 to 20, which is the most shots recorded in one game since the 2015-16 season. Junior Katie Huntington and first-year Nina Steigauf scored their first career goals in the win. Redshirt sophomore Logan Angers tallied 19 saves and earned her first win of the season in the net.

(5:10, 1st period, EV) – Quinnipiac 1, Sacred Heart 0: Junior Lexie Adzija received the puck from junior Katie Huntington and skated to the left circle and fired off a shot. Sophomore Kate Reilly was there to collect the rebound and net her first goal of the season.
(8:21, 1st period, EV) – Quinnipiac 2, Sacred Heart 0: Adzija came back three minutes later and netted her own goal from seniors Laura Lundblad and Taylor Girard off the face-off.
(13:11, 1st period, EV) – Quinnipiac 3, Sacred Heart 0: Huntington netted her first career goal from redshirt sophomore Courtney Vorster. Huntington skated with the puck from the right side to the right circle and sniped a shot past Sacred Heart's Frankie Sanchez.
(2:44, 2nd period, PP) – Quinnipiac 4, Sacred Heart 0: First-year Nina Steigauf recorded her first career goal as a Bobcat on the power play from Vorster.
(6:37, 2nd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 5, Sacred Heart 0: Sophomore Sadie Peart found senior Grace Markey, who secured her own shot's rebound and then found senior Renee Saltness through traffic on the back door.
(4:04, 3rd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 6, Sacred Heart 0: Markey netted her first goal of the year off a snipe from the slot. Saltness and Reilly recorded assists on the play.
(6:53, 3rd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 6, Sacred Heart 1: Sophie Lupone scored the Pioneers' lone goal early in the third period. Cassandra Nevers and Kennedy Spiering recorded assists.

NOTES

Turner earned her 100^th career win.
Redshirt sophomore Logan Angers made 19 saves and earned her first win of the season.
Six different Bobcats tallied more than one point in the 6-1 win.
Two Bobcats recorded career firsts – Huntington and Steigauf scored their first career goals.
Reilly and Adzija led the team with eight shots each.
Adzija won 17 of 23 faceoffs taken (74%). Senior Brooke Bonsteel won 10 of 15 (67%). Markey won 9 of 10 taken (90%).
The Bobcats tallied 10 assists total and outshot the Pioneers 68-20. Quinnipiac's 68 shot total is the most shots in a game since the 2015-16 season when the team recorded 68 against RPI.
