Williams Gives Back to Beacon, Helps Form Community Service Group

Quinnipiac Guard Uses Time Home During COVID-19 Pandemic to Help Create The Label Foundation
BEACON, N.Y. – Tyrese Williams' trip home in March became an opportunity, as he saw it.
In response to the ever-growing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2019-20 college basketball season had been abruptly shut down.
Williams now had the chance to return to his roots in Beacon – and he had free time. He wanted to make a positive impact on the community that he grew up in.
A group of 10-12 of his friends from Beacon felt the same way. The group had conversations via text message and then again in person. And just like that, The Label Foundation was born.
Williams is a co-founder of the organization. The Label Foundation has had multiple clothing drives, back-to-school events and even haircut sessions – all designed to give back to children in need. They also participated in a peaceful Black Lives Matter march over the summer as a group.
On The Label Foundation's website, the organization has a mission statement that reads: "We vow to bring people of all walks of life together in order to guide the youth in the right direction."
On the court, Williams enters his junior season with the Bobcats as one of the team's most experienced players. He's played in 61 games (59 starts) over his first two seasons at Quinnipiac, recording 9.4 points per game to go along with 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists. The Bobcats' junior guard keeps in touch with the rest of the group via text messages and facetime calls.
"I just want to be a person that helps positive change happen," Williams said. "Most people would say that these are things somebody in my situation shouldn't be doing… but the time home in March helped us make a real plan. It's a warm feeling in your heart, to know that you're moving things in a positive direction no matter how big or small."
