Junior Jake Tomsik Named MAAC Co-Preseason Player of the Year

Bobcats Tabbed No. 3 in Coaches' Poll
EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac men's lacrosse junior Jake Tomsik has been selected as the 2020 MAAC Co-Preseason Player of the Year, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Tomsik and the Bobcats (42 points) have been tabbed No. 3 overall in the Preseason Coaches' Poll, finishing behind only Marist (63 points) and Detroit Mercy (49 points). Tomsik and sophomore Will Abbott were also selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Team, while Marist's senior Peyton Smith earned Co-Preseason Player of the Year honors alongside Tomsik.
The Bobcats finished the 2019 season with a 9-7 (5-2 MAAC) recording during Head Coach Mason Poli's first year at the helm, as the program made its third-ever appearance in the MAAC Tournament championship contest. Quinnipiac recorded a winning MAAC record for the fourth time in six seasons since joining the conference in 2013-14, earning a No. 2 seed in the postseason tournament. The Bobcats scored 10+ goals in five of seven regular season league games.

Jake Tomsik led the Bobcats with 60 total points (37 goals, 23 assists) in 2019 as a sophomore. He finished second in the MAAC and No. 5 nationally in points per game (3.75) last year, earning a spot on the All-MAAC First Team. He tied a program record with eight goals against NJIT on Feb. 2, 2019, the highest single-game scoring mark since Erik Anderson scored eight times vs. Siena on April 10, 1999.
Will Abbott turned in an impressive freshman season for the Bobcats. He scored 20 goals to go along with 14 assists for 34 points in 2019, finishing fourth on the team in scoring. He tallied eight games of two or more goals, and was named to both the All-MAAC First Team and the All-Rookie squad.
The Bobcats will begin the 2020 schedule on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Rutgers (1:00 PM), followed by another road contest at UMass Lowell on Saturday, Feb. 8 (1:00 PM). The program's home opener will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15 vs. Brown (1:00 PM).
