Strubbe Nets Two Goals but Bobcats Can't Overcome Pride's Three Second Half Tallies
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Quinnipiac field hockey graduate student Bianka Strubbe (Wroclaw, Poland) scored a pair of goals for her first career two-goal game and the Bobcats battled in the fourth quarter but came up just short in a 3-2 loss at Hofstra Monday afternoon.
Both of Strubbe's goals came on penalty corners for the Bobcats with Inès Ruiz Martinez (Madrid, Spain) and Valerie Perkins (Mohegan Lake, New York) each picking up a pair of assists on the tallies.
Strubbe put the Bobcats up 1-0 early in the second quarter with her first of the game, a lead the Bobcats took into halftime.
After Hofstra scored three straight goals in the third and fourth quarters, Strubbe got Quinnipiac back within a goal with just over six minutes remaining in the game.
Eva Veldhorst (Maastricht, Netherlands) and Perkins each had shots saved later in the quarter and Strubbe's final shot off a penalty corner went wide with just over 1:30 left to play.
Quinnipiac converted two of its five penalty corners for goals while the defensive group did not allow a goal on penalty corners.

On Monday's game
"This is something we're typically accustomed to is having a really tight game whenever we play Hofstra. It's been that way throughout the years and the main reason we keep them on our schedule. It was a battle that went back-and-forth and the score shows that.
"I saw some really bright spots and good things for us, like changing some things on our corners that resulted in two goals for us and coupled with the fact that we're trying to use some younger players and work them through the system, I'm pretty happy with that.
"It's obviously not the outcome we were looking for and we have to learn to fight and play the Bobcat style for the entire 60 minutes. We tend to come in and out of our style, and that becomes difficult for each other to gel.
On Bianka Strubbe
"Bianka, for me, is just the fiercest competitor and after we left this game, we took some notes and decided we're just not fierce enough in the ARZ. We put her up there for a little bit and you might see her there a little more often because she just has that go-getter, get out of my way mentality and she's very physical.
"Some people have the mentality to be strong but maybe can't back it up physically but she's somebody that backs it up physically, mentally and in terms of preparation she's just a good example of what a Division I player at Quinnipiac should be"
