Former Lehigh Student-Athlete/Coach to Serve as Assistant on Mason Poli's Staff
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's lacrosse program and head coach Mason Poli have announced the addition of assistant coach Casey Eidenshink to the Bobcats' coaching staff ahead of the 2019-20 season, as announced on Monday, Aug. 5.
Most recently, Eidenshink served as an assistant coach at Lehigh University – his alma mater – for two full seasons (2018-19). A close defenseman and long-stick midfielder as a player, the 2016 graduate of Lehigh was an All-Patriot League and Academic All-League honoree, finishing his collegiate career with a GPA over 3.30.
"We are very excited to welcome Casey to the Bobcat family," Poli said. "As both a former player and coach, Casey brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him from Lehigh. He will have a very positive impact on the team, and will help us achieve our goals in the MAAC and on the national stage."
In his first year as an assistant at Lehigh in 2018, Eidenshink helped the program jump back into the national spotlight. The Mountain Hawks were ranked as high as No. 12 nationally, defeating No. 12 Army West Point and No. 18/19 Hofstra in the span of 10 days. Lehigh finished the season with a 10-7 record, going 5-3 in Patriot League action. The program fell to Loyola in the conference tournament championship game.
Eidenshink then helped guide the Mountain Hawks to another winning season in 2019, as Lehigh went 9-8 overall and 5-3 in conference play once again. The program advanced to the title contest of the postseason conference tournament once again, falling vs. Army West Point in the championship by the final score of 11-7.
As a player, Eidenshink appeared in 55 games (30 starts) during his Lehigh career. He recorded 115 groundballs and 49 caused turnovers – which ranks tied for eighth in school history. He had a career-high 50 groundballs and 23 caused turnovers as a junior, along with 32 groundballs and nine caused turnovers as a senior.
As a senior, Eidenshink was named a candidate for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, played in the USILA North-South All-Star Game and was a USILA Scholar-All-American. He was selected by the Charlotte Hounds in the 2016 Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft.
Eidenshink graduated Lehigh in May of 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in finance.
