Women's Lacrosse Loses to Siena Despite First Half Lead
HAMDEN, Conn. – Maddie Deegan scored a career-high five goals, but Quinnipiac women's lacrosse dropped a MAAC contest, 11-7, to Siena at the QU Lacrosse Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 5-9 (2-4 MAAC) so far in 2019. Siean scored eight of the last nine goals of the contest, outscoring Quinnipiac 8-2 in the second half.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Saints opened the scoring with the game's first two goals at :29 and 7:08 of the first half. Annie Brennan and Kerry Gerety both scored for Siena to open up a 2-0 lead.
- Quinnipiac responded by taking advantage of two Siena yellow cards, as Allison Kuhn and Deegan each scored man-up goals. Deegan's came on a free position attempt that tied the game with 19:05 left in the first half.
- Brennan scored her second of the game ten minutes later to put Siena back in front with 9:33 until halftime.
- As the teams entered the last three minutes of the half, the Bobcats tallied three goals in a 48-second span and took a 5-3 edge into the break. Megan Szawlowski scored her 29th of the season, while Deegan notched her second and third of the game during the run.
- Deegan scored her fourth of the afternoon and 15th of the season in the opening 90 seconds of the second half, giving the Bobcats a 6-3 lead.
- It was then that Siena took over the game, scoring six straight goals over next 20 minutes and opening up a 9-6 advantage with 10:51 remaining in regulation.
- Deegan pulled the Bobcats within two goals with her fifth marker of the contest, but the Saints closed the game out with two more goals down the stretch.
- The Bobcats were outshot by the Gaels, 34-21 in total, including an 22-17 advantage in the shots on goal.
- Quinnipiac only completed 13 of its 20 clear attempts in the contest, while the Saints were a perfect 18-18.
- The hosts won the draw control battle, 11-9, for the fourth time in their last five contests.
- Deegan's five goals were the most by a Quinnipiac freshman since Allison Kuhn scored five against Manhattan on April 23, 2016.
- The Bobcats caused nine turnovers in the game, while the Jaspers were only able to force three.
- Sami Walters made ten saves, her third-straight game with 10+ stops, but ultimately fell to 5-5 with the loss.
- The Bobcats travel to Manhattan College on Saturday evening for the final road game of the regular season. Quinnipiac and Manhattan will square off at 5:00 p.m. in Riverdale.
