HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team will look to return to the win column on Wednesday as it travels up I-91 to Hartford to take on the Hawks of the America East. The 2:00 p.m. contest is the second all-time meeting between the two teams, with the Bobcats taking last year's matchup, 16-4.
LAST TIME OUT – L, 17-5 vs. Wagner
Wagner took advantage of a fast start and ran away from Quinnipiac on Friday afternoon. The Seahawks scored the first four goals of the game en route to a 17-5 win over the Bobcats at Wesleyan's Smith Field. Megan Szawlowski tallied three points in the loss, while five other Bobcats recorded at least a point. Freshmen Sophie Spencer and Gabby Beckett continued the strong starts to their careers, as Spencer scored her third goal of the season and Beckett secured her fourth assist in six games.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
The Hawks dropped a 16-6 decision to LIU Brooklyn on Saturday, falling to 0-5 on the season. Sophomore Megan Miller had a hand in five of Hartford's six goals on Saturday, putting three in the back of the net while adding two assists. Miller's five points on Saturday put her at the top of Hartford's 2019 leader board in points (9), goals (6) and assists (3). Rookie Emma Privitera currently ranks second in the America East in saves per game. Privitera has made 65 saves in five games, averaging 13.00 per contest
GET SWAZZY WITH IT
Junior Megan Szawlowski has tallied 15 goals in her first six games as a Bobcat. The Central Connecticut State transfer has taken 34 shots and won 11 draw controls.
NEWBIES ON THE BOARD
Freshmen Sophie Spencer and Maddie Deegan both scored a goal in their collegiate debuts against Stetson, while classmate Gabby Beckett added a goal and an assist against Brown. All three freshmen scored against Yale last Wednesday, while Deegan added another pair of goals in the win over LIU Brooklyn and Spencer and Beckett picked up a goal and an assist against Wagner, respectively.
KUHN JOINS CENTURY CLUB
Senior attack Allison Kuhn recorded her 100th career point against Canisius last season and now has 134 points (98 goals, 36 assists) early in her senior year. She is on pace to become only the ninth player in school history to record 100 career goals, as she stands 2 away. Her 25 points (18 goals, 7 assists) this season moved her into 11th place on the Bobcats' all-time points list, ninth all-time in goals, and tenth all-time in assists.
ATTACKING THE MAAC
Senior Allison Kuhn and graduate student Sami Walters both earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for their performances at Stetson. Kuhn was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring five goals, including a double-overtime game-winner. She also added an assist, two draw controls, and a ground ball to her stat line. Walters, a transfer from UMass, was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week after making a career-high nine saves in the win. After entering the game at halftime, the graduate student also picked up six ground balls in her Quinnipiac debut.
MAN DOWN BUT NOT OUT
Quinnipiac played man-down for 14 minutes in this season's game at Brown. In that time span, the Bobcats scored a shorthanded goal and did not allow Brown a single tally.
STELLAR SAMI
Transfer graduate student goalkeeper Sami Walters ranks fifth among all active Division I women's lacrosse goalkeepers with an 9.18 goals against average in her career.
ALLIE KELSEY, HOMECOMING WARRIOR
Playing in her home state, junior goalkeeper Allie Kelsey made eight saves against Brown, three shy of her career-best. She added eight ground balls and five caused turnovers, one ground ball short of tying Quinnipiac's program record.
MOVIN' ON UP
The Bobcats are one of just six of the 115 NCAA D1 Women's Lacrosse teams in the nation have increased their win total in each of the last four seasons.
TRENDING UPWARDS
Head Coach Tanya Kotowicz's squad has tallied more combined wins over the last two seasons than any two-year span since 2013.
UP TO THE CHALLENGE
The 16-game regular-season slate runs from February to April, and will feature two opponents that reached the 2018 NCAA Tournament. In addition, seven of Quinnipiac's opponents won at least nine games each a year ago. The program's seven regular season home competitions feature non-conference matchups with Brown, LIU Brooklyn, and defending Northeast Conference Champion Wagner College, who won a first round game in last year's NCAA Tournament.
