HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team resumes non-conference play with a pair of mid-week games this week with a return to the Quinnipiac baseball field. The Bobcats will host Rhode Island on Tuesday and Dartmouth on Wednesday with first pitch set for 3 p.m. each day.
Scouting Rhode Island
The Rams are coming off a weekend series win over Atlantic 10 opponent George Washington. The Rams had 29 runners cross home plate over the three-game series, including 19 runs in the series opener on Friday. Overall, the Rams come into this game with a 6-12 record. The Rams have been up and down at the plate this season, posting a team batting average of .255 and scoring 5.4 runs per game. Rhode Island has four batters with averages over .300, including Max Mircovich who has a .371 batting average in 35 plate appearances this season. On the mound, the Rams have struggled this season, posting a team ERA of 5.61. Seven pitchers have recorded a start this season. Nick Robinson has started five games for the Rams, which is the most on the team. In 26.1 innings, he has a 6.84 ERA and a record of 1-4.

Andre Marrero was huge for the Bobcats in both games on Sunday as he finished the day with two home runs and five RBI's. Christian Nicolosi made his first start since the 2017 season in Game 2 on Sunday and pitched five scoreless innings, striking out five and scattering three hits over his five innings of work.
Marrero's Mashing
Andre Marrero continues to be a go-to weapon for the Bobcats at the plate. Marrero extended his hitting streak to seven games after his two home run and five RBI performance in the doubleheader on Sunday against Saint Peter's. Marrero upped his average to .314 after his outstanding weekend. Marrero leads the team in home runs with four and is tied for the team lead in RBI's with 14.
Saving the Day
Robert Lewis and Andrew Workman each picked up their second saves of the season in the sweep of the doubleheader on Sunday. Workman has been a very reliable piece out of the Bobcats bullpen so far this season posting a 3.09 ERA in 11.2 innings of work and shutting batters down, only having a .222 batting average against.
Delaney's Milestone
With the 13-0 win over Saint Peter's on Saturday afternoon, head coach John Delaney recorded his 100th victory as the Bobcats head coach. He is the third coach in Quinnipiac baseball history to record 100 wins, joining Dan "Skip" Gooley (439 wins) and Earl Matthewson (174 wins) as the only other coaches to reach 100 wins.
High Voltage
Evan Vulgamore has been one of the Bobcats' best offensive weapons through the first 16 games this season, and he really heated up against Florida Atlantic and the competition at the Spider Invitational as he racked up 10 hits. On the season, Vulgamore leads the Bobcats with a .329 batting average, .548 slugging percentage, 24 hits, 17 runs, 10 doubles and 14 RBI's, and is among the team leaders with a .390 on base percentage, and two home runs.
