HAMDEN, Conn.- The Quinnipiac women's hockey team will finish non-conference play for the 2018-19 season with a two-game road series against the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. The Bobcats will play the Bulldogs Jan. 25-26 at 3:07 p.m. each day at Amsoil Arena.
Scouting Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs are 10-10-2 overall and 7-7-2 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The home team is coming off a weekend sweep of #5 Ohio State with 5-2 and 6-3 wins last weekend
Gabbie Hughes leads the Bulldogs with 24 points on 13 goals and 11 assists. The Bulldogs have eight players with double-digit points on the season. In the net, junior Maddie Rooney has played in 19 games for Minnesota Duluth, holding a 7-10-2 record with a 2.77 GAA and .918 save percentage.
All-Time Against the Bulldogs
Quinnipiac and Minnesota Duluth have never played through the programs' histories. This will be the first matchup between the Bobcats and Bulldogs.
Bobcats' Last Time Out
Quinnipiac defeated Sacred Heart, 2-1, last Friday, Jan. 18, in Shelton, Conn. Senior Melissa Samoskevich tallied her 100th career point by scoring her 50th goal. Sophomore Laura Lundblad (2g, 3a) also scored for the Bobcats. Junior Abbie Ives recorded 11 saves in the victory.
Ives Looking Solid in the Net
Ives has recorded four shutouts on the season against Brown, Yale and Harvard. She recorded a season-high 39 saves in the 3-2 win against UConn.
In the ECAC, Ives is ranked fourth overall with a 1.71 GAA, and she is ranked 15th in the country with an overall 1.79 GAA.
Defensemen Lighting it Up
Kati Tabin and Kate MacKenzieare ranked in the top ten for defenseman scoring in the ECAC. Tabin (4-4-8) is ranked sixth and MacKenzie (2-5-7) is ranked seventh.
Bobcats on the PK
Quinnipiac has gone 35-39 (89.7%) on the penalty kill through 14 ECAC games, which ranks second overall in the conference behind RPI.
A Look at the ECAC
Princeton controls the first spot in the ECAC standings and has yet to be defeated in conference play with 25 points. The Big Red and the Golden Knights are in second and third. Colgate, St. Lawrence, Quinnipiac, RPI, and Harvard follow to make up the middle of the conference. Brown, Yale, Dartmouth and Union stand at the bottom.
Samo'sCareer
Samoskevich recorded her 100th career point against Sacred Heart after scoring her 50thgoal. She is the sixth women's hockey player to score 100 caeer points. The senior is now ranked third on the all-time individual goals record list. She is ranked eighth on the all-time assists list with 50.
Senior Campaign
Senior forward Randi Marcon has already surpassed her point totals from last season with four goals and four assists for eight points in 2018-19.
