HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's hockey team will face Sacred Heart in Shelton, Conn. on Friday, Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m. The Bobcats will have two weekends off from conference play with games against the Pioneers this weekend and the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs Jan. 25-25.
Scouting Scared Heart
The Pioneers are 15-4-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA). Sacred Heart is coming off a 1-0-1 weekend against Saint Michael's.
Jayne Lewis leads the Pioneers with 25 points on the season with 12 goals and 13 assists. Sarah Erban has played 17 games in the net for the Pioneers holding a 13-1-3 record with a .924 save percentage and 1.57 goals against average.
All-Time Against the Pioneers
Quinnipiac holds an 8-0 record against Sacred Heart and has outscored the Pioneers 48-2 over an 11-year span. The last time Quinnipiac played Sacred Heart was during the 2011-12 season, and the Bobcats won, 4-0.
Bobcats' Last Time Out
Quinnipiac went 0-2 against two top-ten teams last weekend on the road.
Against #9 Colgate, Quinnipiac dropped a tough game, 5-2, after a penalty-heavy first period. Kate MacKenzie and Randi Marcon both scored for the Bobcats in the loss. Abbie Ives has 19 saves.
The Bobcats played #4 Cornell the following day and lost 2-1. Kati Tabin scored for the Bobcats and was assisted by Melissa Samoskevich and Kenzie Lancaster.
Ives Looking Solid in the Net
Ives has recorded four shutouts on the season against Brown, Yale and Harvard. She recorded a season-high 39 saves in the 3-2 win against UConn.
In the ECAC, Ives is ranked fifth overall with a 1.71 GAA, and she is ranked 17th in the country with an overall 1.83 GAA.
Defensemen Lighting it Up
Kati Tabin and Kate MacKenzie are ranked in the top ten for defenseman scoring in the ECAC. Tabin (4-4-8) is ranked third and MacKenzie (2-5-7) is ranked fifth. Both Tabin and MacKenzie scored against Colgate and Cornell.
Bobcats on the PK
Quinnipiac has gone 35-39 (89.7%) on the penalty kill through 14 ECAC games, which ranks first overall in the conference.
A Look at the ECAC
Princeton still sits in first in the ECAC standings and has yet to be defeated in conference play with 25 points. The Big Red and the Golden Knights are in second and third.
Colgate, Quinnipiac, RPI, St. Lawrence and Harvard follow to make up the middle of the conference. Brown, Yale, Dartmouth and Union stand at the bottom.
Samo's Milestone
Senior captain Melissa Samoskevich has recorded 99 career points with 49 goals and 50 assists. She needs one more point to reach 100.
USA Hockey Winter Training Camp
Samoskevich was also invited to USA Hockey's Winter Training Camp in Plymouth, Mich. The senior attended the camp from Dec. 17-21.
