Bobcats Host Second Nationally Ranked Opponent in First Three Home Games

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac field hockey team continues its two-game homestand with the No. 19 Maine Black Bears coming to town Saturday afternoon for a Noon showdown at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats split last weekend's games, winning on the road at Columbia before returning home and falling to the Michigan State Spartans. Quinnipiac leveled its record to 2-2 on the season.
Scouting Maine
Maine comes into the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record and climbed into the Top 20 in the nation after defeating a pair of ranked opponents over the weekend. The Black Bears are lead by the reigning national defensive player of the week, Mia Borley. She allowed just one goal in the past two games against No. 19 Boston University and No. 24 Ohio State, totaling seven saves. She comes into the weekend sporting a 0.98 GAA. Offensively, the Black Bears are led by Libby Riedl and Samantha Wagg who each have three goals while Casey Crowley has a goal and three assists for five points.
A Big W in the Big Apple
The Bobcats picked up their second win of the season last Friday after knocking off the Columbia Lions, 3-2, in New York City. Three different Bobcats netted goals in the win, including a game-winning goal from Anna Walmsley (Glasgow, Scotland) as well as Elisa van Winkel's (Heeze, Netherlands) first career goal.
We Have a Winner
Walmsley netted her second career game-winning goal early in the second half of the Bobcats' win at Columbia for her first goal of the season. Just minutes earlier, Marisa Larkin (Saratoga Springs, New York) had tied the game for the Bobcats after Columbia had taken a 2-1 lead with her first goal of the season.
First Career Points
Jess Halley (Glasgow, Scotland) and van Winkel each recorded their first career points in that victory at Columbia as Halley had her first career assist in addition to van Winkel's first career goal. The Bobcats have had three different players record their first career points this season.
Getting it Done
Junior Amanda Blum (Langhorne, Pennsylvania) recorded her first point of the season with an assist on Walmsley's game-winner. The assist was Blum's second of her career after one assist last season.
Making the Save
Hannah Teicher (Bethesda, Maryland) has started the last three games for the Bobcats, earning two wins to move her record to 2-1. Teicher has made 13 saves on the season on her way to a .722 save percentage and sports a 1.69 GAA.
New Member of the Squad
Head coach Becca Main announced the addition of former Quinnipiac captain Michelle Federico to the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant. Federico was the second-leading scorer on the Bobcats last season before graduating in December. Off the field, Federico was a four-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad and was a member of SAAC.
Preseason Honors
Elisa Ruiz Martinez was named to the 2018 Preseason All-BIG EAST team, rewarding her for an impressive 2017 season in which she scored two goals and tallied three assists for seven points. In conference play, she had a goal and an assist for three points as one of Quinnipiac's top players in just their second season in the BIG EAST.
Bobkittens
This year's Quinnipiac squad features 12 newcomers to its 24-player team, including 11 freshmen and one graduate student player. This talented incoming class is Quinnipiac's first full recruiting class since joining the BIG EAST for the 2016 season.
