HAMDEN, Conn. — The Quinnipiac softball team will host in-state rival Sacred Heart in its final nonconference game on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
LAST GAMES (FAIRFIELD 5, QU 2; FAIRFIELD 10, QU 6)
In game one, Fairfield's Destinee Pallotto edged Casey Herzog in a pitcher's duel to secure the 5-2 win for the Stags. Pallotto pitched a complete game and allowed two earned runs. Herzog also pitched a complete game, but all five runs scored against her were unearned.
With Quinnipiac facing a 5-1 deficit going into the bottom of the seventh, Miranda Magana was able to reach on a one-out double and scored on a Rebecca Drake single to cut the score to 5-2 in the seventh. However, Quinnipiac was unable to score another run and fell 5-2.
In game two, Fairfield got on the board early, scoring five runs in the first three innings. Quinnipiac got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Courtney drilled a two-run triple to right-center to cut the deficit to 5-2. Keala Cordeiro immediately followed with an RBI single to cut the Stags' lead to 5-3.
Fairfield added three more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-3 lead to the bottom of the fifth. Quinnipiac kept up the fight, putting two on with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Douglas delivered with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 8-4. Magana immediately followed with a two-run double to cut the Stags' lead to 8-6, but the Stags added two more insurance runs to secure the 10-6 win.
QUEEN OF THE PITCHING CIRCLE
Casey Herzog is tied for the MAAC lead in pitching wins (14) and leads the conference in ERA (1.84). Herzog also leads the MAAC with 17 complete games, 155.2 innings pitched and her 140 strikeouts is second in the conference.
BIG BATS
Junior Erin Larsen and senior Keilani Finley rank among the top power hitters in the MAAC so far this season. Larsen is third in the MAAC with seven home runs, while Finley is one behind with six in a tie for fourth. On the RBI charts, Larsen is tied for fourth with 26, while Finley's four triples ties her for second in the conference.
MULTIPLE BOBCATS EARN MAAC HONORS
Senior Keilani Finley (10 RBI in four MAAC games) was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on April 10 after driving in 10 runs in a four-game weekend against Niagara and Canisius. She became the latest in a long line of MAAC honorees this year. Sophomore infielder Rachel Marchuk was named the Player of the Week for games through Sunday, March 25 after batting .500 (6-for-12) in five games for the Bobcats, including a home run and two doubles. A week prior, senior pitcher Casey Herzog was named the Pitcher of the Week for games through March 18 after going 4-0 for the Bobcats with three complete games, a 0.54 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 26 innings of work. On March 11, junior Erin Larsen was named the Player of the Week after a strong performance at the USF Under Armour Showcase, batting .500 (8-16) with seven RBI over the tournament.
NEVER SAY DIE
Quinnipiac had a memorable 11-9 comeback win over Maine at the USF Under Armour Showcase on March 10. The Bobcats found themselves down 8-0 after two innings, but tied it 9-9 in the sixth on back-to-back homers from Keilani Finley and Erin Larsen, before winning it with two runs in the seventh.
FIRST 2018 WIN A DRAMATIC ONE
Quinnipiac traveled to Orlando, Florida to open its season at the D9 Orange Blossom Tournament, hosted by the University of Central Florida. The Bobcats earned their first win of the year in dramatic fashion, taking a 5-4 victory over Kennesaw State in extra innings on a two-run walk-off homer from Miranda Magana in the bottom of the ninth.
LAST YEAR VS. SACRED HEART
The last time the Bobcats took on the Pioneers, the Quinnipiac softball team swept former NEC rival Sacred Heart, 1-0 and 4-0, in the "Fight Against DIPG" Games in honor of Danni Kemp. In game one, Sarah Heimbach drove in the game's only run in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 10th inning. Casey Herzog threw the most innings in her career by going the full 10 in a complete-game, extra-inning shutout.
In game two, Abbey Long pitched a complete-game shutout en route to a 4-0 Bobcats win, with Keala Cordeiro, Rachel Marchuk and Taylor Troyan providing run support.

The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday, May 5th, when Quinnipiac travels to take on MAAC-foe Manhattan in a doubleheader set for noon.
