
QU Baseball Rolls to 10-0 Victory Against Saint Peter's in First MAAC Action

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey - The Quinnipiac baseball team picked up their first MAAC victory of 2018 on Friday afternoon as they defeated Saint Peter's, 10-0. Senior Taylor Luciani notched his third victory of the season. Sophomore Dylan Lutz led the Bobcats offensively with three hits and a pair of runs batted in. Quinnipiac, as a team, tallied 13 hits on the afternoon, with senior Ben Gibson, sophomore Andre Marrero, and freshman Ian Ostberg each recording a multi-hit game and driving home a run. Junior Brian Moskey also drove home a pair of runners, as classmate Kyle Horton also brought in a run.

- Senior Taylor Luciani spun a gem on the hill this afternoon, collecting nine strikeouts while allowing no runs and only five hits in 8.1 innings work. The right-hander now leads the Bobcats with three wins on the season.
- The Quinnipiac offense got going early, as Dylan Lutz doubled home classmate Andre Marrero, who led off the game, in the top of the first inning.
- The Bobcats would plate another run in the opening frame when Ben Gibson knocked home Lutz with a single.
- Quinnipiac would put another crooked number up on the scoreboard in the fourth inning, beginning with a one-out double from senior Anthony Cruz.
- Freshman Ian Ostberg brought home Cruz with an RBI single after sophomore Derek Kasperzyk reached base after being hit by a pitch.
- Kasperzyk would cross the plate during the next at bat because of a balk, giving the Bobcats a 4-0 lead.
- Andre Marrero plated Ostberg with a single to center field following the balk.
- In the top of the fifth, Derek Kasperzyk picked up his first RBI of the season as he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
- In the sixth inning, Andre Marrero would walk and steal a pair of bases to get himself into scoring position.
- Junior Liam Scafariello and sophomore Evan Vulgamore each reached base with walks.
- Junior Brian Moskey then smacked a two-run single with two out bring the score to 8-0.
- In the top of the next frame, Dylan Lutz drove home his second run of the game with an RBI single.
- The Bobcats would add another run in the top of the ninth inning when junior Kyle Horton, batting for Ostberg, singled home Kasperzyk, making the score 10-0.
- Freshman Arthur Correira finished up the contest for the Bobcats, picking up the final two outs. He worked through a jam to secure the shutout victory for Quinnipiac.
