HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's hockey team will finish 2018 with two road games against Union and RPI. Puck drop against the Dutchwomen is set for Friday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. at Messa Rink. The Bobcats will take on the Engineers the next day at 3 p.m. at the Houston Field House.
Scouting Union
The Dutchwomen will host the Bobcats with a 2-12-2 overall record and an 0-5-1 ECAC record. Union has yet to win a conference game and is coming off a 0-4 loss against Harvard and 2-4 loss at Dartmouth.
Arianna Kosakowski leads the Dutchwomen with seven points on three goals and four assists. Haley Shugart holds the most power play goals on the team with two. The goaltending has been split between Coco Francis, who has playing in eight games and Amelia Murray, who has played in seven. Francis has recorded a .876 save percentage and a 3.84 GAA, while Murray has a .913 save percentage and 2.85 GAA.
All-Time Against the Dutchwomen
Quinnipiac has never lost to Union, holding a 28-0-4 record against the Dutchwomen. The Bobcats swept the series last year winning 4-2 and 4-3.
Notes on RPI
The Engineers are 5-8-4 overall and 3-3-0 in ECAC play. RPI is coming off a 1-1 weekend with a 2-1 win against Dartmouth and an 0-2 loss against Harvard.
Blake Orosz leads the squad with 11 poins on five goals and six assists. Lovisa Selander has played games in the net for the Engineers and has recorded a .946 save percentage and a 1.86 GAA.
All-Time vs RPI
The Bobcats hold a 17-12-2 record against the Engineers. In the 2017-18 season, Quinnipiac defeated RPI twice, winning 2-0 and 2-1.
Bobcats' Last Time Out
Quinnipiac lost two ECAC games against #10 Princeton on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. At Hobey Baker Rink, the Bobcats scored two late goals in the third to cut the Tiger's 3-0 lead down to one goal. Princeton held on to win the first game of the series, 3-2. Kenzie Lancaster and Brooke Bonsteel scored and Lexie Adzija, Kate MacKenzie, Zoe Boyd and Taylor House all recorded helpers.
Back in Hamden, the Zoe Boyd scored her first career goal on a Bobcat power play to give Quinnipiac the early 1-0 lead. The Tigers would control the rest of the game, however, and scored three unanswer goals to win 4-1.
Ives in the Net
Junior Abbie Ives has recorded three shutouts on the season against Brown, Yale and Harvard. She recorded a season-high 39 saves in the 3-2 win against UConn. She is ranked ninth in the ECAC with a 1.85 GAA and has played the most minutes with 485:52.
Defensemen Lighting it Up
Kati Tabin, Kate MacKenzie and Zoe Boyd are all ranked in the top ten for defenseman scoring in the ECAC. Tabin (2-3-5) and MacKenzie (1-4-5) are tied for fourth overall. Boyd is ranked ninth with four points on one goal and three assists through eight conference games.
Bobcats on the PK
Quinnipiac has gone 19-21 on the penalty kill through eight ECAC games, which ranks third in the conference.
Samo's Milestone
Senior captain Melissa Samoskevich has recorded 93 career points with 46 goals and 47 assists. She needs seven more points to reach 100.
Samo Returns from Saskatchewan
Samoskevich was named to the U.S. Women's National Team Roster for the 2018 Four Nations Cup. Samoskevich scored in the U.S.'s win against Sweden and Canada. The U.S. won all four games, including the championship game against Canada. This was the four consecutive time the U.S. has won the Four Nations Cup.
