HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac will play in the Nutmeg Classic, hosted by Yale, Nov. 23-24. The first game is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m., as the Bobcats take on UConn.
Nutmeg Classic Breakdown
The 15th annual Nutmeg Classic will take place in New Haven, Conn., at Ingalls Rink. The first game of the tournament will begin at 3 p.m., as Quinnipiac faces UConn. Yale and Providence are slated to play at 7 p.m. The winners will play in the championship on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. The consolation game will begin at 3 p.m. on the same day.
Scouting the Huskies
The Huskies come into the Nutmeg Classic with a 6-7-1 overall record and a 3-6-1 Hockey East record. UConn was blanked twice by #4 Boston College last weekend in a home-and-home series.
Catherine Crawley leads the Huskies with 13 points on five goals and eight assists. Morgan Fisher has controlled the net for UConn making 12 starts with a 5-6-1 record. The junior netminder has recorded a .924 save percentage and 2.25 GAA.
All-Time Against UConn
Quinnipiac is 7-10-0 against the Huskies with the last meeting coming on Oct. 7, 2016 with the Bobcats winning, 3-0.
Notes on Yale and Providence
The Bulldogs will host the four-game tournament and open the weekend with a 2-6-0 overall record. The Bobcats defeated the Bulldogs this season, 2-0, on
Number 9/9 Providence comes to New Haven with a 10-2-0 overall record and 7-1-0 Hockey East record. The Friars swept Merrimack in a home-and-home series. Quinnipiac last played Providence in the 2017-18 season and split two games.
Bobcats' Last Time Out
Quinnipiac dropped a home game against Merrimack on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The Bobcats lost 2-0 to the Warriors. Sophomore Allison Small recorded 19 saves in the loss.
Ives in the Net
Junior Abbie Ives has recorded three shutouts on the season against Brown, Yale and Harvard. She recorded a season-high 32 saves in the 3-3 tie against Colgate. She is ranked seventh in the ECAC with a .937 save percentage.
Bobcats on the PK
Quinnipiac has gone 17-17 on the penalty kill through six ECAC games, which ranks first in the conference. Against Cornell and Colgate, Quinnipiac's special teams only allowed four total shots through eight penalty minutes.
Samo Returns from Saskatchewan
Senior captain Melissa Samoskevich was named to the U.S. Women's National Team Roster for the 2018 Four Nations Cup. Samoskevich scored in the U.S.'s win against Sweden and Canada. The U.S. won all four games, including the championship game against Canada. This was the four consecutive time the U.S. has won the Four Nations Cup.
