HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac field hockey team hits the road for its final road trip of the 2018 regular season as the Bobcats wrap up the year at Temple on Friday night before traveling to Worcester, Massachusetts, to face Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats split last weekend's pair of games, falling on senior day to Old Dominion on Friday but rebounded with a strong 2-0 shutout of Sacred Heart on Sunday night. The Bobcats had a pair of goals from first-time scorers in Bianka Strubbe and Isabella Sinibaldi.
Scouting Temple
The Owls have struggled this season, going 2-14 and 0-6 in the BIG EAST. Coming into the weekend, the Owls have lost eight games in a row after a win vs. Towson back on Sept. 23. Kathryn Edgar leads Temple with 10 points on the season, recording three goals with four assists. Lucy Reed is tied for the team lead with three goals on the season while 12 different players have scored goals. Goalkeeper Chloe Johnson has a .690 save percentage on the season and has made 127 saves on the season.
All-Time vs. Temple
Quinnipiac and Temple have played just two games all-time between each other with both happening since the Bobcats joined the BIG EAST. The Bobcats won last season's game on Oct. 20, 1-0, after falling the year before in 2016.
Scouting Holy Cross
The Crusaders come into the weekend with a 3-12 record but are 2-3 in the Patriot League. Holy Cross has struggled throughout the season, going 0-6 at home at the Hart Turf Field. The Crusaders opened the season with nine straight losses before picking up three consecutive wins to enter the month of October. Holy Cross has last three straight heading into the weekend, including a 3-1 loss to Bucknell. Emily Loprete has a team-high 11 goals and 23 points while Suzanne Noone is second on the team with three goals and 10 points. Marcia LaPlante continues to be one of the top goalkeepers in the Patriot League as she has a 175 saves and has a .761 save percentage.
All-Time vs. Holy Cross
The Bobcats are 7-5 all-time against the Crusaders since the first all-time meeting between the two teams in 2004. Last season, the Bobcats fell to the Crusaders in one of the first games against at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium, 2-0. Quinnipiac is looking for its first win against Holy Cross since 2015.
Among the Best
Junior Ines Ruiz Martinez remains among the top statistical leaders in the nation as her five defensive saves are tied for fourth in the nation. As a team, the Bobcats have eight defensive saves which is tied for the third most in the nation.
Making the Save
Hannah Teicher picked up her first career shutout on Sunday with the 2-0 victory over Sacred Heart. Teicher needed just one save to tally her first career shutout. In her first season as the Bobcats starting goalkeeper, Teicher has tallied five wins along with 55 saves.
B Movie
After establishing herself as one of the Bobcats top offensive weapons, Bianka Strubbe struck for her first career goal against the Pioneers and was credited with the game-winning goal. Strubbe had picked up her first career point earlier this season with an assist at Liberty.
Izzy's Busy
Isabella Sinibaldi also found the back of the cage for the first time in her career as she scored an insurance goal for the Bobcats against the Pioneers. Sinibaldi's first career goal came just under 20 minutes after Strubbe's first career goal.
A Season of Firsts
The new Bobcats have had a lot of impact on the roster so far this season as eight different Bobcats have recorded their first career goals this season and seven of those players have tallied their first career points.
The Amanda Show
Amanda Blum continued her impressive junior season with another assist against Sacred Heart on Sinibaldi's goal to give her seven points this season. Blum's three assists this season are good for the team lead while her two goals and seven points are the second most on the team.
Part of History
Elisa van Winkel and Makayla Adams are the first freshmen since Danielle Allan '15 in 2011 to score 10 points. It is the first time that two freshman have recorded 10 points in a season in at least the past 12 seasons.
