QU Women’s Lacrosse Falls at Marist, 10-4

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team dropped a 10-4 decision to Marist on Saturday afternoon in MAAC action from Tenney Stadium. The Bobcats fall to 3-9 overall and back to .500 in conference play at 2-2 while Marist levels their overall record at 6-6 while jumping up to 2-1 in the MAAC.
Quinnipiac featured four different goal-scorers in Brianna Fitzgerald (Norwalk, Connecticut), Allison Kuhn (Kingsville, Maryland), Julia Corrice (Sparta, New Jersey) and Ellie Swenson (Ipswich, Massachusetts) while Amy Hauser (East Northport, New York) added an assist. In goal, Bobcats goalkeeper Kyle Larkin (Brightwaters, New York) was peppered with shots as Marist held a 30-9 advantage in the category. Larkin stopped a career-high 20 shots in goal on her way to becoming the first Quinnipiac goalkeeper to stop 20 in a game since Megan Matthews stopped a program record 24 on Mar. 30, 2003. Larkin became the fifth goalkeeper in Quinnipiac history to reach the 20-save mark.
Marist opened the game with five unanswered goals as Olivia Pitonzo scored three times and Samantha Mehalick added two more to give the Red Foxes as 5-0 lead. With just under 12 minutes to go in the first half, Fitzgerald scored her seventh of the season and fourth in her last two games. Late in half, Kuhn scored her 18th of the season to pull the Bobcats within three goals, 5-2. Kuhn now owns a four-game scoring streak and a six-game point streak in which she has found the back of the net 10 times while adding five assists for 15 points in her last six outings.
Marist's Audrey Cerrone scored with 2:23 to go in the first half to give Marist a 6-2 lead heading into the break. Coming out of the break, Corrice scored her fifth goal of the year and third in her last four games to pull Quinnipiac within three goals. Mehalick scored five minutes later for her third of the game before Quinnipiac's Swenson scored her eighth of the season off a pass from Hauser, who picked up her second assist of the season. It would be the closest Quinnipiac got all night as Marist scored three times in the final eight minutes to push their lead to 10-4.
Quinnipiac is back in action on Apr. 12 when it hosts Fairfield at Yale University's Reese Stadium in New Haven, Connecticut at 8 p.m. It was be the first of three home games, out of the Bobcats four remaining regular-season contests. The Bobcats travel to Canisius on Apr. 15 before completing their schedule at home on Apr. 19 against Siena and Apr. 23 against Niagara.
