NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – Fairfield used a 14-1 run to surge past the Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team who fell to the Stags, 17-5, on Wednesday evening from Reese Stadium. The Bobcats drop their second straight, falling to 3-10 (2-3 MAAC) while Fairfield ups their win streak to six straight while improving to 8-4 (4-0 MAAC) on the season.
Ashley Bobinski (Kinnelon, New Jersey) scored two goals, giving her five multi-goal games in 2017. Julia Corrice (Sparta, New Jersey) dished out a career high three assists while Alex Hlesciak (Lumberton, New Jersey) scored one and assisted on another to give her a two-point night. Ellie Swenson (Ipswich, Massachusetts) and Victoria Bobinski (Kinnelon, New Jersey) each scored one goal for the Bobcats.
Kyle Larkin (Brightwaters, New York) posted her fifth straight double-digit save outing as she compiled 10 saves on 23 shots-on-goal. Larkin now has 16 career games with 10+ saves. Kiera Kelly (West Islip, New York) spearheaded the defensive effort with four caused turnovers.
Facing a red-hot Fairfield that came in outscoring their MAAC foes 48-20 through their first three conference games, Quinnipiac showed very well early in limiting the Stags on offense while converting on the other end as the score was tied 2-2 through the first 18+ minutes of play. Ashley Bobinski scored at the 7:06 mark of the first half to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead while she again tallied a goal that tied the score at 2-2 with 11:45 remaining in the opening stanza.
This, however, was the long bright spot on the evening for Quinnipiac as Fairfield seized complete control over the ensuing 30+ minutes as the Stags rattled off a 14-1 run to put the game well out of reach heading into the closing stages of the game.
Riley Hellstein, the second-leading scorer in the MAAC, was excellent all evening long as she went a perfect 4-for-4 on her free position shot attempts on her way to a six-point night (five goals, one assist). Alex Fehmel (game high six goals) teamed up with Hellstein as the high-scoring duo scored 11 of the 17 Fairfield goals in the convincing win.
Quinnipiac heads back on the road for the annual Buffalo trek, preparing to meet the traditional MAAC power Canisius at 12 PM on Saturday. Fans can watch the game live on ESPN3.
