Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) was 3-for-4 with a RBI double and a stolen base while Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut), Liam Scafariello (Southing, Connecticut) and Matthew Oestreicher (North Haven, Connecticut) all collected two hits for the game. Freshman Blake DeCarr (Foxboro, Massachusetts) logged four innings, allowing two runs. Mike DellaMadaglia (Somers, New York) took the loss despite a solid performance in relief. Matthew Osieja (Wyckoff, New Jersey) pitched in his 65th career game to extend his record and Greg Egan (Seldon, New York) threw a shut-out ninth inning.
Bryant scored the game's first run when Nick Angelini's sacrifice fly scored Cole Fabio to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Joseph Burns (Shelton, Connecticut) walked with two outs before stealing second. After Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) walked, Liam Scafariello (Southington, Connecticut) doubled to left field to score Burns and tie the game at 1-1.
Bryant regained the lead in their next at-bats before adding another run in the top of the fifth. Trailing, 3-1, Quinnipiac scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to grab a 4-3 lead. Palladino and Batten singled before Scafariello walked to load the bases. Oestreicher then lined a shot up the middle to score Palladino. Ben Gibson (Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts) then spied Bryant first baseman Mickey Gasper playing back and dropped down a sacrifice bunt down the first base line to score Batten and tie the game at 3-3. Bryant reliever Mason Palmieri then walked Moskey to load the bases and Derek Kasperzyk (Killingworth, Connecticut) to force home Scafariello with the go-ahead run.
In the eighth, Bryan Hart singled to start the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt before Fabio singled up the middle to score Hart from second and tie the game at 4-4. After Angelini walked, Gasper turned on a 3-and-2 offering from DellaMadaglia and blasted a three-run homer to give Bryant a 7-4 lead.
Quinnipiac got a run back in the bottom half of the inning when Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, Tennessee) hit a laser over the center fielder's head for a double and then scored on a single by Batten to pull Quinnipiac within two runs, 7-5. In the ninth, Oestreicher walked to lead-off the inning before Anthony Cruz entered the game as a pinch runner. Cruz moved to second on a passed ball and third on a wild pitch before Gibson struck-out. Moskey then delivered a double off the base of the right-center fence to drive home Cruz and pull Quinnipiac within a run, 7-6. With the tying run in scoring position, Bryant's Logan Lessard struck out the final two batters of the inning to end the Bobcat threat.
Quinnipiac returns to action this weekend when it hosts St. Peter's for a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series. On Saturday, Apr. 22, Quinnipiac and St. Peter's will play a nine-inning game at 12 p.m. followed by a seven-inning game. On Sunday, Apr. 23, the Bobcats and Peacocks will face-off in the final game of their series at 12 p.m.
