The Quinnipiac University baseball team will look to build off their record-breaking weekend against Iona when they travel to in-state foe UConn Monday, April 17, for an out-of-conference matchup with the Huskies.
THEIR LAST TIME OUT
- Quinnipiac, took home one win in a three-game series against the Iona Gaels in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup this past weekend. The Bobcats won Game 2 by a score of 1-0, while dropping Game 1, 12-4, and Game 3, 2-1.
- Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) continued to rewrite the record books for the Bobcats this weekend, notching his 62nd career stolen base in Game 2. Batten's 10th stolen base of the season broke the career record of 61 held by Bob Bruzik '83. Batten also notched three hits on the weekend - to give him 228 for his career, tying Vincent Guglietti '15, for fourth place all-time. Batten also had the Bobcats' lone RBI in Game 3.
- The Bobcats were led on the mound by Chris Enns (Canton, Connecticut), who pitched 6 of the 7 innings in the shortened Game 2 of the double header. The junior struck out four batters, while only allowing five baserunners in six scoreless innings of work, good for his second win of the season.
- Mike Davis (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) converted on his sixth save of the season in the Game 2 victory.
CORRECTION
- Quinnipiac Sports Information incorrectly reported that Matthew Osieja (Wyckoff, New Jersey) broke the program appearances record against Iona this weekend. We checked back in the record books and Osieja actually tied the Quinnipiac all-time appearances record previously held by Matthew Lorenzetti '15 and Mike Spahr '05 with his 63rd time on the mound. Osieja worked a spotless 8th inning in relief in Game 3. His next appearance would give him the most appearances by a pitcher in Quinnipiac history.
- Quinnipiac senior stand-out Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) is tied for fourth on Quinnipiac's career hits leaderboard after a three-hit weekend.
- Batten's 228 career hits sit behind all-time leader Tim Binkoski '07 (244), Ryan Rizzo '07 and Ben Farina '11 (238) and is tied with Vincent Guglietti '15 (228).
- Batten also broke the career stolen bases record when he swiped his 62nd bag of his career.
- Matthew Osieja (Wyckoff, New Jersey) made his 63rd career appearance on the mound against Iona on Saturday, tying the record for career appearances made by a Quinnipiac pitcher.
- Liam Scafariello's (Southington, Connecticut) 9th inning home run on Monday, April 3 against Niagara made him just the ninth player in program history to reach 12 home runs in a season.
- The last Quinnipiac players to hit 12 in a season was Pete Kummerfeldt, Randy Gress and Jeff Mainetti in 2007.
- Joseph Burns (Shelton, Connecticut) hit the first home run in the newly-opened Dunkin' Donuts Park against Hartford on Tuesday, Apr. 11.
