HOME SWEET HOME
The Quinnipiac softball team will begin conference play at the QU Softball Field in doubleheaders against Saint Peter's on Sunday, April 2, and Rider on Monday, April 3. The Bobcats will have a quick turnaround and host Sacred Heart in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 4 as well.
SCOUTING THE PEACOCKS
Saint Peter's is off to a slow 1-11 start to the season and have yet to play any conference games. Samantha Storms leads the team with three home runs and eight RBIs.
SCOUTING THE BRONCS
Rider is off to a slow 3-18 start to the season and have yet to play in any conference games. The team's offense is led by Monica Clark, who is tied for the team lead in home runs with two.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Sacred Heart is off to a 7-15 start to the season and has dropped its last five contests. The Pioneers' offense is steered by Lauren Delgadillo, who has 21 hits on the season, as well as 5 RBIs.
LAST TIME VS SAINT PETER'S
Quinnipiac swept Saint Peter's on the road in a doubleheader the last time they played, 10-9 and 6-3, on April 30, 2016. Sarah Heimbach (Greenwich, New York), Magana and Troyan all provided two RBIs apiece in the game one win. In Quinnipiac's 6-3 game two victory, Maria Ascher (Little Canada, Minnesota) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run. Troyan also hit a home run in the contest. Herzog got the win, going the distance while giving up three runs, no walks and striking out 10.
LAST TIME VS. RIDER
The last time the Bobcats took on the Broncs, they swept them on the road in a doubleheader, 8-0 and 9-3, on May 7, 2016. Miranda Magana (Santa Paula, California) and Taylor Troyan (Boca Raton, Florida) each chipped in two RBIs in the 8-0 game one win. In game two, Keilani Finley (Alameda, California) went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI's. Emily Czaja (Palmer, Massachusetts) went 3-for-4 as well with three RBIs. Casey Herzog got the win in game two, tossing four shutout innings, while giving up no hits, no walks and striking out three.
LAST TIME VS SACRED HEART
Quinnipiac went 1-1 last season against Sacred Heart, winning the second game 1-0 at home. Herzog got the win, going six scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and striking out five. Kendall Brundrett (San Diego, California) got the save after coming in to close the door in the seventh.
LAST TIME OUT
Last time time the Bobcats took the field, Quinnipiac swept Hartford in a Thursday doubleheader, 5-0 and 2-1.
THE LONG WAY
In Abbey Long's (Eau Claire, Wisconsin) last start against Hartford, she went the distance while surrendering just one run on three hits and struck out five. Long moved to 5-6 with the win and owns a 3.26 ERA on the season.
NEARLY UNHITTABLE
Herzog tossed a complete-game shutout against Hartford the last time she took the mound. Herzog's dominance nearly earned her a no-hitter, as she gave up her only hit with two outs in the fifth inning. It was Herzog's third complete game shutout win this season.
MORE LIFE
Rebecca Drake (Whiting, New Jersey) has injected life into Quinnipiac's lineup this season. Drake boasts a team-best .392 batting average and has slugged four homers and driven in 17 runs.
MARVELOUS MAGANA
Miranda Magana (Santa Paula, California) has been one of the team's most consistent hitters so far this season. In 25 games, Magana has an impressive .369 batting average with five homers and 16 RBIs.
ROUGHING THE RIGHTIES
Drake and Magana have hammered right-handed pitching so far this season. Drake is 28-for-67 (.418) against righties, while Magana is 26-for-70 (.371) against righties.
SEND 'EM HOME
Quinnipiac has an impressive .303 batting average with runners in scoring position this season. Drake is an astounding 11-for-22 (.500) with runners in scoring position, Erin Larsen (Kissimmee, Florida) is hitting .455 and Magana is hitting .375 with RISP.
