BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT – Former Quinnipiac men's ice hockey stand-out Connor Jones earned his first National Hockey League (NHL) call-up when the New York Islanders recalled Jones from loan from the American Hockey League's (AHL) Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Jones is the third Quinnipiac alum to be called up to the NHL this season, joining Michael Garteig with the Vancouver Canucks and Matthew Peca with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Peca was the first Bobcat to register a point and score a goal, totaling a goal and an assist in 10 NHL games this year with Tampa Bay. He becomes the fifth player from the 2012-13 Quinnipiac team - including Garteig, Peca, Eric Hartzell and Bryce Van Brabant - to dress for a NHL game.
Jones totaled five goals and 13 assists for 18 points in 56 games with the Sound Tigers, as well as a +8 rating. Jones also compiled 13 points on six goals and seven assists last season with Bridgeport. On Feb. 22, 2017, Jones signed a one-year, two-way contract (AHL)/NHL) with the Islanders through the remainder of the season.
He currently plays alongside his twin brother, Kellen Jones, as well as former Quinnipiac stand-outs Devon Toews and Travis St. Denis. Prior to signing with the Sound Tigers, Connor played 41 regular-season games with the AHL's Oklahoma City Barons and the ECHL's Bakersfield Condors and scored three goals in 10 playoff games with Oklahoma City.
While at Quinnipiac, Connor played in 153 games totaling 129 points on 49 goals and 80 assists. Connor appeared in 40 games as a senior and had 38 points with 15 goals and 23 assists. He also posted a +15 plus-minus rating. He became the 20th player in Quinnipiac's Division I history to reach the 100-point mark, and 34th all-time, after finishing his career with 49 goals and 80 assists for a total of 129 points in 156 games played.
Connor played 37 games as a junior and was second on the team with six power play goals. He finished the season with 12 goals and 14 assists. He also had three assists and one goal during the Bobcats' NCAA Tournament run. Connor was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team.
