
QU Baseball Gets Back on Track, Topping Kent State 4-2 on Sunday

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina - Junior DH Julius Saporito (Manalapan, NJ) put the Bobcats ahead with a two-run homerun in the sixth inning, leading Quinnipiac baseball past Kent State, 4-2, on Sunday morning at David F. Couch Ballpark. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 5-5 so far this season.
Saporito went 2-for-4 in total, belting the go-ahead homerun that put the Bobcats up 4-2 to right field. Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, TN) added two hits, an RBI and a run scored in the win, while Brian Moskey (Higganum, CT) chipped in with a 2-for-4 effort and a run scored.
Quinnipiac has now scored 51 runs in its first 10 games of the season, good for 5.1 runs per contest thus far.
Christian Nicolosi (Stony Point, NY) earned the win on the hill for the Bobcats, improving to 2-0 this season. He went 5.0 innings in his second start of the year, giving up six hits and just two earned runs while striking out four Kent State batters.
Quinnipiac's bullpen then went 4.0 scoreless innings to end the game and help the Bobcats grab their fifth victory of the 2017 season. Nick Paasch (Tolland, CT) threw 1.1 innings, giving up just one hit. Matthew Osieja (Wyckoff, NJ) followed Paasch, getting both hitters he faced to fly out to end the seventh inning. Andrew Workman (Pound Ridge, NY) got then got the save, his first of the year, throwing the final 2.0 innings without surrendering a single hit or walk.
Kent State grabbed the early lead, plating one run in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Quinnipiac posted two runs in the fourth, though, grabbing a 2-1 advantage. Nelson tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Moskey. Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, NY) then hit a sharp single to right field to playe Saporito, making it 2-1 Bobcats.
