
No. 8 Princeton Skates Past QU Women's Ice Hockey, 2-0, in Game 2 of the ECAC Quarterfinals

PRINCETON, New Jersey - No. 8 Princeton scored two goals just 1:55 apart during the second period of play on Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink, topping No. 10 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey by the final score of 2-0 in Game 2 of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals.
 
With the win, the Tigers (ECAC Hockey's No. 4 seed) force a decisive Game 3 vs. Quinnipiac (ECAC Hockey's No. 5 seed) on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. The winner moves on to the ECAC Hockey Semifinals next weekend.
 
Quinnipiac falls to 21-9-6 in the 2016-17 season with the loss, while Princeton improves to 19-9-3 with the victory. The Bobcats head into tomorrow's third and final game of the series 12-6 all-time in postseason quarterfinal games.
Bobcats' senior goaltender Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) was sharp, making 37 saves just one day after stopping a career-high 59 shots in Quinnipiac's thrilling Game 1 victory. She has 96 games through the first two games of the series.
 
Princeton got on the board with 5:51 left in the second period. Kimiko Marinacci scored her first goal of the season and fourth of her career to give the Tigers a one-goal advantage. Senior Kelsey Koelzer collected the puck at center ice on a pass from Kiersten Falck, then tipped it behind her back to Marinacci. The sophomore riffled a shot at Rossman, who stopped it with her pad, but Maranaci then poked the puck into the back of the net amidst a scrum of bodies.
 
The Tigers then made it 2-0 just under two minutes later. Molly Strabley intercepted a Quinnipiac pass in the middle of the ice and immediately fired a cross-ice pass to Cassidy Tucker. The senior fired a wrist shot into the back of the net from the faceoff circle to give the home team a two-score lead. The goal was Tucker's 13th of the season.
Quinnipiac had 29 total shots to Princeton's 39, while the Bobcats won 25 of 54 faceoffs. Game 3 of the series between Quinnipiac and Princeton is set for tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017) from Hobey Baker Rink at 3 p.m.
