
Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Tops Princeton, 6-2

PRINCETON, New Jersey – Quinnipiac men's ice hockey rolled to a 6-2 win at Princeton in an ECAC Hockey matchup at historic Hobey Baker Memorial Rink in Princeton, New Jersey. The win is the Bobcats third-straight ECAC Hockey win as they improve to 3-4-0 in the league and 6-7-1 overall while Princeton drops to 4-5-1 overall and 2-4-1 in league play.
Six different Bobcats scored including Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta), Logan Mick (Armstrong, British Columbia), Bo Pieper (Roseville, Minnesota), Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey),Nick Jermain (Norwalk, Connecticut) and Kevin McKernan (Millbury, Massachusetts). Pieper and McKernan also picked up an assist while Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota), Brogan Rafferty (Dundee, Illinois) and Karlis Cukste (Riga, Latvia) had two assists each.

- 5:02, 1st (Quinnipiac 1, Princeton 0): Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta) scored his fourth goal of the season to give Quinnipiac the early lead. John Furgele (Glen Mills, Pennsylvania) started the play in the Bobcats defensive zone, playing it up the boards to Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota). Tufto tipped the puck past a Princeton defender to MacMaster who walked in on goal and finished with a toe drag to give Quinnipiac the lead.
- 16:48, 1st (Quinnipiac 2, Princeton 0): Logan Mick (Armstrong, British Columbia) cleaned up a rebound in front of the Princeton goal to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. Scott Davidson (Trail, British Columbia) won a draw in the Tigers' defensive zone before it was wrapped around the boards behind the Tigers' net. Luke Shiplo (Oakville, Ontario) put a hit on a Princeton defender in the corner that sent the puck loose behind the goal Davidson picked up the puck, carried out from behind the net and around the zone before firing a shot on goal. The rebound drifted out to Brogan Rafferty (Dundee, Illinois) in the opposite face-off circle who one-timed a shot on goal before it bounced out to Mick, who was waiting in the slot for the rebound.
- 7:36, 2nd (Quinnipiac 2, Princeton 1): Ryan Kuffner broke up a pass in the neutral zone and fed Max Veronneau just above the blue line. Veronneau had a step on a Quinnipiac defender and beat Bobcats' goalie Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) stick-side with a wrister off the breakaway.
- 12:05, 2nd (Quinnipiac 3, Princeton 1): Quinnipiac scored on the power play when Bo Pieper (Roseville, Minnesota) tipped a shot by Rafferty for his second goal of the season. The Bobcats worked the puck around the Princeton zone before Tufto picked up the puck along the boards and fed Rafferty at the point. Rafferty rifled a shot on goal before Pieper was able to tip it past Princeton's Ryan Ferland to give the Bobcats a two-goal lead.
- 18:33., 2nd (Quinnipiac 4, Princeton 1): Skating four-on-four, Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) made a play just below the blue line on a puck heading out of the Bobcats' zone, faked a shot, then fired on goal. The shot was pushed to Ferland's left where Pieper tipped it to Priskie on the goal line. Priskie then skated behind the goal and zipped as pass to Whelan in the slot for the one-timer.
- 13:13, 3rd (Quinnipiac 5, Princeton 1): Sophomore Nick Jermain scored his first goal of the season after he won a race down ice and picked up a loose puck behind the Princeton bench. Kevin McKernan (Millbury, Massachusetts) took a pass from Karlis Cukste (Riga, Latvia) and sent it up ice for Jermain. Jermain made a move around a defender, stepped behind the goal and scored on a back-hand shot off the wrap-around.
- 13:45, 3rd (Quinnipiac 5, Princeton 2): Eric Robinson gave Princeton its second goal of the game as they trimmed Quinnipiac's lead to three goals in the closing minutes.
- 18:03, 3rd (Quinnipiac 6, Princeton 2): With Princeton's goalie pulled, Kevin Duane won a draw in front of the Quinnipiac net back to Karlis Cukste, who handed it to Kevin McKernan in the corner. McKernan wristed a shot the length of the ice, which found the back of the Princeton net to give Quinnipiac a 6-2 lead.
- MacMaster's goal was his fourth of the season, and first since the Bobcats' 5-0 win against Brown on Nov. 17.
- Mick has now scored in his last two games, including Saturday's matchup at UMass. He joins Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey), Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida), MacMaster and Tufto as the only Quinnipiac players to score in back-to-back games this season.
- Pieper's goal was his second of the season and first since Oct. 8 against Boston University. Pieper also picked up an assist on Whelan's goal for his first multiple-point game since Game 3 of last year's ECAC Hockey Quarterfinal-clinching win at St. Lawrence on Mar. 12, 2017.
- Whelan also scored for the second-straight game to give him a team-leading six goals for the season.
- Priskie's assist on Whelan's goal gives him a team-high seven points – three goals, four assists – in seven ECAC Hockey games.
- With two assists against Princeton, Tufto now owns a team-best six multiple-point games as he posted two assists on Quinnipiac's first three goals.
- Rafferty doubled his assist total for the season with a two-assist night to give him four for the year.
- Duane's assist was his first point of the season.
