
Two 3rd Period Goals Lead to 2-2 Tie, QU Wins Shootout 2-1, Wins 7th Nutmeg Classic

Storrs, Connecticut – For the second straight day, the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team skated to a tie and the winner of the Nutmeg Classic was determined by a shootout. The Bobcats and Huskies were tied at 2 after 65 minutes of play after third period goals scored by Melissa Samoskevich and Raquel Pennoyer. Grace Markey and Kenzie Lancaster scored in the shootout and Abbie Ives turned away 3 shots, leading the Bobcats to their seventh Nutmeg Classic Championship.

- 9:33 1st Period (UConn 1-0): Natalie Snodgrass found the back of the net from the left post after a centering pass on a two-on-one.
- 13:45 1st Period (UConn 2-0): Natalie Snodgrass fired a shot into the top right corner of the net from the lower circle.
- 10:00 3rd Period (UConn 2-1): Melissa Samoskevich came down the wing, shot the puck from the circle, and cleaned up her own rebound in front after a pass from Kenzie Lancaster.
- 11:04 3rd Period (Tied 2-2): Raquel Pennoyer tipped the puck past the goaltender after Anna Kilponen fired the puck from just inside the blue line following a cross ice pass from Kate MacKenzie.
- This was the second game in a row that was decided by a shootout. Quinnipiac won both games, winning the shootout 2-1 with four rounds both times.
- Junior Kenzie Lancaster (Waxhaw, North Carolina) and freshman Grace Markey (West Bloomfield, Michigan) found the back of the net in the shootout for the Bobcats. This was the second straight day that Lancaster did so.
- Junior captain Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) netted her ninth goal of the season, and eighth in her last five games.
- Senior Raquel Pennoyer (Rehoboth, Massachusetts) scored her first goal of the season.
- Sophomore Abbie Ives (Bedford Hills, New York) made 23 saves for the game and was given the Laurie Belliveau Goaltender Award, for most outstanding goaltender of the tournament.
- Lancaster also picked up her 10th assist of the year, extending her team lead in both assists and points.
- Junior Anna Kilponen (Orivesi, Finland) and sophomore Kate MacKenzie (Winnipeg, Manitoba) each tallied their fourth assist of the season.
- Sophomore Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Nutmeg Classic.
- Ives, Coutu-Godbout, and sophomore Kati Tabin (Winnipeg, Manitoba) were named to the All-Tournament team.
- The Bobcats outshot the Huskies 14-4 in the last 25 minutes of play
- Quinnipiac has won 7 of 14 Nutmeg Classics.
- This was the first time that Quinnipiac and UConn met in the Nutmeg Classic Championship Game, even though both teams have participated in all 14 tournaments.
The Bobcats are back in action next Friday, December 1, when they return to ECAC play against the Crimson of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
