BIG WEEKEND AHEAD
The Quinnipiac men's tennis team will travel just down the street to the Elm City where they compete in the Connecticut State Championships from Sept. 23 through Sept. 25 at the Yale Tennis Courts with action beginning each day at 10 A.M.
Special Kei
Senior Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) comes into the tournament with 115 wins, which places him in sixth on Quinnipiac's all-time wins list. At last weekend's UConn Invite, Ezaka won the Consolation "A" singles championship.
LAST YEAR'S CONNECTICUT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
At last year's Connecticut State Championships, the doubles team of former Quinnipiac men's tennis player Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey) and current sophomore Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) were able to win the Flight "B" doubles championship.
DYNAMIC DUOS
The men's tennis team had two sets of duos that won doubles championships at the UConn Invitational last weekend. Ezaka teamed up with junior Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) to win the Flight "A" doubles championship on the first day of competition at the UConn Invitational Friday afternoon. Freshman Patrick Cachapero (Loma Linda, California) and senior Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, New York) also teamed up to win the Flight "B" championship at the invitational.
THE CORE FOUR
Men's tennis four freshmen have gotten off to a hot start for their collegiate careers. Cachapero, Jackson Koke (Calgary, Alberta), Axel Stern (Tustin, California) and Austin Yannone (Severna Park, Maryland) went a combined 21-7 at the UConn Invitational. Yannone was able to go 6-1 at the Invitational and won the Flight "C" singles championship.
WINNING WAYS
Despite not having the most active career-wins on the team, Zaretsky boasts the highest winning percentage on the team with 67.3%. Rozenstein comes in at a close second at 66.3%.
ALMOST HOME
After wrapping up the Connecticut STate CHampionships this weekend, the Bobcats will head back home to Hamden and prepare to host the Quinnipiac Invitational from Friday Sept. 30 through Sunday Oct. 3
