
QU Baseball Falls to Seton Hall After Lengthy Rain Delay, 14-2

SOUTH ORANGE, New Jersey – The Quinnipiac baseball team fell in a rain-delayed game at Seton Hall, 14-2, on Friday night at Owen T. Carroll Field.
Quinnipiac's loss drops the team to 7-15 on the season while Seton Hall improved to 18-8 with the win to continue their impressive start to the season.
Freshman Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) recorded his third consecutive two-hit game and extended his hitting streak to five games as he went 2 for 4 with a double for the Bobcats. Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) and Julius Saporito (Manalapan, New Jersey) each had a single and a RBI for the Bobcats while Matthew Payero (Corona, New York) and Aron Fried (Ossining, New York) each scored runs for the Bobcats.
Starting pitcher Thomas Jankins (West Brookfield, Massachusetts) tossed the first 2/3 of an inning for the Bobcats before the game went into a one hour, 46 minute rain delay that chased him from the game with two hits and two unearned runs allowed.
Seton Hall struck for two runs in the bottom of the first inning as Mike Alescio reached first on a Ben Gibson (Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts) fielding error that scored both Zach Weigel and Derek Jenkins before the game entered the rain delay. Following the delay, Wyatt Hamilton (Falmouth, Massachusetts) came on in relief and got the Bobcats out of the inning after two walks.
The Bobcats tied up the game in the top of the fifth inning as Moskey doubled down the left field line with one out in the inning and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After a Payero walk, Fried laid down a bunt to try and score Moskey but he was thrown out at home plate. Batten followed with a single to right field that scored Payero before Saporito singled up the middle to score Fried from third base.
The Pirates exploded for 12 runs over the next four innings, scoring at least one run in each of the remaining innings. Chris Chiaradio led the Pirates going 3 for 5 with a double, three runs and two RBIs while Weigel went 2 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs as well. Alescio drove home three RBIs for Seton Hall.
In total, the Pirates had five players record multiple hits, four players drive home multiple RBIs and three players score multiple runs in the game. Seton Hall out-hit the Bobcats 14-5 in the game.
Quinnipiac and Seton Hall return to the diamond Saturday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1 PM at Owen T. Carroll Field.
