Kyle Larkin Notches 13 Saves in the Loss
HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team lost to MAAC foe Marist, 13-2, at the QU Lacrosse Turf Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops the Bobcats to 2-12 on the season while remaining winless in MAAC play at 0-6. Marist picks up their second straight win and fourth in the last five games as the Red Foxes now stand at 7-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Kyle Larkin (Holbrook, New York) was the lone bright spot on the day for the Bobcats as she tallied 13 saves (one off her career-high) on 26 shots while she also picked up two ground balls in the cage.
Aileen Carey (Long Beach, New York) tallied both the Bobcat goals on the day for her second straight multi-goal game and the seventh of the season for the senior attack. She now has a team-leading 21 goals in 2016.
Quinnipiac managed to notch the first goal of the game just 1:03 into play as Carey was fouled in the circle and then ripped her free position attempt in for a goal to make it 1-0.
However, after the Carey tally it was a one-sided affair as Marist scored 13 consecutive goals and held the Bobcats off the scoreboard for over 55 minutes of play. Kara McHugh played a large role in the Marist domination as she netted four goals to go along with one assist. Hayley Burke tied McHugh with a game-high five points as Burke went for one goal and four assists.
The Bobcats also had a tough time dealing with the MAAC's top scorer in Allison Gionta who also ranks fourth in the nation in goal scoring. Coming off an impressive 15-point showing against Manhattan on Wednesday, Gionta wasn't needed as much on the day as she finished with four points (two goals, two assists) as she moves her point total to 71 (47 goals, 14 assists) on the season.
The Saturday home game also served as the Coaches vs. Cancer game for the Bobcats as they raised awareness and took donations for Corey Burke, a junior health science major at Quinnipiac who was diagnosed with metastatic cancer this year.
