QU Women’s Lacrosse Drops Road MAAC Contest to Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team fell on the road to instate foe Fairfield, 17-3, at Rafferty Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The loss drops the Bobcats to 2-13 on the season and 0-7 in MAAC play. The final game of 2016 is slated for Saturday at home against Manhattan in a 1 PM start. Fairfield moves back to .500 with the win at 7-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Kathleen DeVito (Glastonbury, Connecticut) accounted for both of the Bobcat goals as she tallied her fifth multi-goal game of the season. Loren Antonacci (Smithtown, New York) dished out two assists while Alex Hlesciak (Lumberton, New Jersey) tallied the lone remaining Quinnipiac goal on the day.
Rachel Massicotte (Wayland, Massachusetts) entered in relief towards the end of the first half as the senior goalkeeper received her first playing time of the season. She went on to tally five saves on 11 shots-on-goal with a career-high three ground balls in her 34:31 of action.
Fairfield took complete control of the game from the opening draw as the Stags scored the first three goals of the game in the first 4:11 of play before Hlesciak finished off a great feed from Antonacci that made it 3-1.
Over the course of the next 19+ minutes of the first half, the Stags rode an 8-0 run to lead 11-1. DeVito broke up the Fairfield run with her first goal of the day as she finished another great pass from Antonacci.
DeVito went on to tally her second goal early in the second half as Shana Maglio (Garden City, New York) found her with a lofted pass in transition. The senior attack Maglio recorded her third career assist on the play before the Stags closed the game on a 4-0 run and ultimately defeated the Bobcats, 17-3.
Quinnipiac will honor their seven-member senior class prior to the start of Saturday's home game against Manhattan as Massicotte, Maglio, DeVito, Aileen Carey, Leah Walter, Sara McCullough and Trinity Scanlon all will be playing in their final game in a Bobcat uniform.
