
QU Baseball Swept by Marist on Saturday, 4-2 and 6-0

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Quinnipiac baseball team was swept by the Marist Red Foxes Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader, falling 4-2 and 6-0, as Marist swept the first MAAC weekend of the season against the Bobcats.
Quinnipiac falls to 6-14 (0-3 MAAC) on the season with their sixth straight loss while Marist improves to 9-10 (3-0 MAAC) with their fourth straight win.
Julius Saporito (Manalapan, New Jersey), Rob Pescitelli (West Islip, New York) and Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, Tennessee) each picked up two hits in the doubleheader for the Bobcats as the team recorded nine hits in both games.
Game One
Pescitelli led the Bobcats with two hits in the game while Nelson was 1 for 3 with a run and a stolen base.
Robert Hitt (Suffield, Connecticut) came on in relief to make his best appearance of the season, scattering seven hits over 4 2/3 allowing just one run with one walk and five strikeouts.
Marist struck first in game one on their way to their second win of the weekend series. Frankie Gregoire led off the bottom of the third inning just before Joey Aiola connected on a 1-0 pitch, launching a two-run home run to right field for his second home run of the season. Zachary Racusin followed Aiola's home run with a double before he was brought home on a Matt Iantosca double.
Starting pitcher Wyatt Hamilton (Falmouth, Massachusetts) exited the game following Iantosca's RBI double for Hitt out of the bullpen.
The Bobcats got one run back in the top of the fourth inning to pull within two runs. Nelson led off with a single through the right side. After a pop-out and a strikeout, Moskey singled to right field as Nelson went first to third. Nelson showed off his speed once again as he stole home.
Greg Kocinski and Gregoire ripped back-to-back one out singles. After an Aiola strikeout made two outs in the inning, Racusin pulled a RBI single to left field to make it 4-1.
Quinnipiac attempted a late inning comeback in the top of the seventh inning. After a Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) walk, he was forced out as Saporito reached on a fielder's choice. Matthew Oestreicher (North Haven, Connecticut) drew a pinch-hit walk before Kyle Horton (Monroe, Connecticut) came on as a pinch-runner. Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) walked to load up the bases for Lou Iannotti (North Haven, Connecticut), who grounded into a fielder's choice with Horton forced out at third base, allowing Saporito to score. Pescitelli reached on an infield single to load up the bases before Nelson grounded out to first to end the game.
Game Two
The Bobcats struggled in game two despite Saporito's 2 for 3 performance at the plate. Moskey and Joseph Burns (Shelton, Connecticut) were each 1 for 3 in the game.
Taylor Luciani (Berlin, Connecticut) pitched seven strong innings for the Bobcats, scattering seven hits with three runs allowed (two earned), two walks and three strikeouts. Luciani has pitched 32 innings this season in five starts with a 3.66 ERA.
Both teams were scoreless through the first two and a half innings before the Red Foxes scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Iantosca led off with a single and came home to score later in the inning on Graham McIntire's RBI single. McIntire came home to score on the next play as Tyler Kirkpatrick singled through the left side, bringing home McIntire from second base. Kirkpatrick stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Lou Iannotti (North Haven, Connecticut). Kirkpatrick scored on a Kocinski sacrifice fly.

Marist loaded the bases on a walk to Kirkpatrick, double by Kocinski and an intentional walk to Aiola. Racusin doubled to left centerfield, scoring Kirkpatrick and Kocinski before Anthony Lazar scored Racusin with a sacrifice fly.
