
Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Ranked No. 1 In USCHO.com Division I Poll For Sixth Straight Week

The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team was ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com Division I Poll for the sixth consecutive week on Monday, Jan. 22, 2016. The Bobcats defeated RPI, 5-4 in overtime on Friday, Feb. 19, before playing to a 3-3 draw against Union on Saturday, Feb. 20. The Bobcats are currently 23-2-7 overall and 14-1-5 in ECAC Hockey.
On Friday night, Quinnipiac men's ice hockey senior captain Soren Jonzzon (Mountain View, California) scored fifteen-seconds into overtime to give the national-ranked No. 1 Bobcats a thrilling 5-4 overtime win at No. 17 Renssealer at Houston Field House in Troy, New York. Tim Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey) set-up the play after forcing a turnover in the neutral zone and finding Jonzzon all alone on the opposite side of the ice. Clifton finished with a goal and two assists while Devon Toews (Abbotsford, British Columbia) scored the game-tying goal with 2:04 to play in regulation while also picking up an assist.
Sam Anas (Potomac, Maryland) had two assists for the Bobcats for his team-leading 11th multiple-point game of the year. Travis St. Denis (Trail, British Columbia) and Kevin McKernan (Millbury, Massachusetts) also scored for the Bobcats.
Against Union, St. Denis, Jonzzon and Connor Clifton(Matawan, New Jersey) all scored for the Bobcats while K.J. Tiefenwerth (Bellmore, New York) had two assists. Anas also picked up an assist to extend his scoring streak to 15 games in which he's accumulated 24 points on 12 goals and 12 assists. With the tie, coupled with Yale's 2-1 win against Clarkson, the Bobcats are four points ahead of the Bulldogs in the ECAC Hockey standings with two regular-season games remaining to play for the Cleary Cup.
Quinnipiac will host Brown on Friday, Feb. 26 for Senior Night, which can be seen live on SNY at 7 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, Quinnipiac will honor seniors Michael Garteig, Travis St. Denis, Jacob Meyers, Tom Hilbrich and Soren Jonzzon.
On Saturday, Feb. 27, Quinnipiac will host Yale for the 14th Annual Heroes Hat game, which can also be seen live on SNY at 7 p.m.
