The Quinnipiac women's tennis team hits the road to begin a stretch of 10 matches away from home on Sunday, Feb. 21 when they take on the Seton Hall Pirates at the Murray Hill Tennis and Fitness Center in New Providence, New Jersey at 12 PM.
All-TIME SERIES VS. SETON HALL
Despite facing off numerous times at the Quinnipiac Invitational and other fall tournaments, the Bobcats and Pirates have faced off just one time in a dual match. Seton Hall won the only match up, 6-1, on March 23, 2014.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
Seton Hall is 3-2 this spring after playing a similar schedule to Quinnipiac so far. Last time out, the Pirates had a three-match winning streak snapped with a 5-2 loss to Rutgers on Feb. 14. Over the three-match winning streak, Seton Hall had a 7-0 win over Fairfield, and 5-2 wins over NJIT and Binghamton. The Pirates opened up the spring with a 4-3 loss to the Army West Point Black Knights. Hannah Liljekvist has not lost in the spring season, the only Pirate to remain undefeated.
LAST WEEKEND RECAP
Quinnipiac came so close to upsetting the Binghamton Bearcats, falling 4-3 despite having a 3-2 lead with two matches to be played. After Sophia Dzulynsky and Sitilia Rencheli won a highly contested doubles match, each went on to win in singles along with Jennifer Lu. The Bobcats lost one doubles match in a tiebreaker set and played their best match of the spring.
MAAC WOMEN'S TENNIS WEEKLY AWARDS
Sophia Dzulynsky was named the MAAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time in her career after picking up two wins against the Binghamton Bearcats on Saturday, Feb. 13. Last season, Jacqueline Raynor led the team with five weekly awards.
THE REAL SOPHIA
With two wins, Dzulynsky crossed the 90-win mark in search of her 100th career Victoria. Dzulynsky has won 91 matches in her career, including 34 in singles and 57 in doubles. Dzulynsky ranks 25th all-time in program history in wins and 13th in doubles wins.
TWICE AS NICE
Sitilia Rencheli matched her doubles partner, Dzulynsky, with two wins in the match against Binghamton. After the pair won their first doubles match of the spring semester, Rencheli went out in No. 4 singles breezed to the easy 6-3, 6-1 victory. Rencheli has 31 wins in her career, including 28 since transferring from VCU prior to last season.
JENNY FROM THE BLOCK
Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) picked up a singles win for the Bobcats against the Bearcats on Saturday to give the Bobcats their third point of the match and bring them so close to victory. Lu's victory was her 15th of the season as she has won seven singles matches on the season.
NEXT MATCH
The Bobcats will hit the road once again next weekend for a pair of matches in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where they will face the St. Joseph's Hawks on Friday, Feb. 26 at 8:30 PM before returning to the court on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 6 PM against the Temple Owls at the Legacy Tennis Center.
